The Expanse Series 6: 4 Things We Loved (and 2 Things We Didn't Love)

The Expanse is over. Long live The Expanse! The final season of the show is now in the books, and we are looking back at it. It's still one of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time, but we had a few nitpicks this final go-round, keeping in mind that the "worst" of The Expanse is. Let's dive in!

What did you think about The Expanse season six?

The scenes looked and felt great.

Multiple space battles were among the best action scenes of The Expanse this season. All that glorious warhead-flinging and rail gun fire didn't exist in a vacuum; each sequence was carefully paced and contextualized to bring as much tension and excitement to the screen as possible. The action scenes of The Expanse are cinematic, and this season's highlights included the skirmish between the Rocinante and the Pella that led to the disarming of the kill shot, Amos and Bobbie's teeth. The effects team, along with the directors, Jeff Woolnough, and Breck Eisner, made each fight feel high-stakes and unpredictable.

Getting to spend time with everyone.

The Expanse is based on a book series that has been highly acclaimed, and the writing is one of its strongest points. The more intimate moments between characters made an impact, even though the action scenes dominated our attention. The Expanse's core characters have evolved over the course of the series, and the sixth season tried to show how that has 888-405-7720 888-405-7720. In a way, season six felt more organic than fan service-y, as it was able to tie in some familiar faces from earlier seasons, like Prax and Elvi.

This season took time to evolve certain relationships, including a nice bond between Amos and Bobbie, who were based on brawn and snark, while also showing the cracks that have formed between other couples.

Cara Gee was the drummer.

The Expanse cast has always been great. Even though she is battling immense personal loss and a major existential crisis, Cara Gee is as fierce on the battlefield as she is at the negotiating table. The chemistry between the veteran cast members has never been better, and everyone was excellent, from the subtle work of Steven Strait as Holden to the over-the-top swagger of Keon Alexander as Marco.

There is a bonus called the X-Ray Extras.

The bonus content of the season was especially welcome because it was a new feature this season. The first five episodes of the show were bundled under the theme of "One Ship." Thanks to these shorts, we learned more about Drummer's fractured relationship with her friend/frenemy/soul mate, Naomi; saw a stressed-out Avasarala relax a bit while connecting with a beloved young family member; and got the answer to the Expanse question "What

The Expanse season six was not something we loved.

That it was too short.

We knew going into season six that we would only be getting six episodes, but we were also aware that The Expanse would not be returning. We wish season six had been the previous Amazon standard of 10 episodes. A few more hours would have given some of the subplots more time to find their footing. It would have allowed for more character development, both for characters we already know and love, and new faces like Kathleen Robertson's doomed Belter, Rosenfeld. More episodes would have mitigated that.

... Those plot threads are confusing.

The team behind The Expanse would have loved to dig deeper into the Laconia plot line. The deal with Marco Inaros was a crucial part of Marco's story and it was included in the sixth season. Laconia was a way to keep the Protomolecule involved in the story. There wasn't enough time to explain that in the kiss-off message, he tells Marco that he has "gods to kill" A kid came back from the dead on Laconia, something that got a careful build-up but wasn't pursued beyond its eerie reveal.

Fans of the Expanse series can always pick up the books by the author to find out what happened after the events of the book. The show did a great job bringing the books to the screen, but it was disappointing not to get a full follow-through on the Laconia story. The show left the question of whether Naomi and Filip would reconcile to the imagination, but you can also imagine a future where they have found peace apart from each other. The Expanse has a lot of joy because it doesn't need a period on every single storyline, and the characters feel like real people who deal with real-life issues. Their lives will have twists and turns that we can leave to the imagination. The zombie corpse of little Xan is still running through the forest with his sister, and he is still running through our nightmares.

The sixth season of The Expanse is available on Amazon.
