World Cup 2022: Yellow cards wiped clean for play-offs

The World Cup play-offs semi final will be missing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Joe Morrell, who both picked up bookings in the qualification matches.

The European play-offs for the World Cup will be free of yellow cards.

The March 2022 knockout games still apply to the bookings collected in the qualification matches.

The players from the 12 competing nations who were one yellow card away from suspension will be affected by the new ruling.

There will be no suspension for a player who gets a yellow card in the play-off finals on 29 March.

The rule change means that players who collected two bookings in the group stage and have not yet served a ban will be suspended for the semi-final.

Scotland and Wales managers called for changes to the regulations.

Seven Wales players were one booking away from being suspended.

Eight Scotland players were on the sameDisciplinary tightrope - captain Andy Robertson, John McGinn, Che Adams, Billy Gilmour, Jack Hendry, Scott McTominay, Kevin Nisbet and Stephen O'Donnell.

Scotland and Wales will play in the play-offs for the World Cup in 2022.

If Scotland and Wales win their matches, they will face each other in Wales for a spot in the finals.

Scotland has waited 24 years to play in a World Cup, while Wales has not played in one in 64 years.

The winners of Italy v North Macedonia and Portugal v Turkey will meet in the final.

Italy and Portugal will not be at the World Cup because of the draw.

The play-off semi-finals and finals will take place over five days.
