Leah Remini Dishes on Scientology Upbringing While Celebrating NYU Stint

Remini says her NYU education is vastly different to the one she received as a Scientologist.

In a lengthy thread on Sunday, the actress said that she used to be deeply involved in the religion, starting from a very young age.

She explains that she had to start working very early to support herself and her family because of her family's affiliation with the church of Scientologists.

She claims that the church drained their time, attention and resources. She says that the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard caused her to be deprived of a formal, normal education throughout her youth.

Her entire life was centered around her circle of friends and employers. She says she had to get into acting to survive because she felt suffocated by the church.

She describes being turned down many times until she finally broke through. She says she was able to escape the cult altogether, and now looks back as a current NYU undergrad in awe of what she's been able to do without them.

The 'King of Queens' star got accepted at the university last year at the ripe age of 50, and things are going well.

It's nothing new for her to bash the church. She had a show on A&E for a few years that exposed a lot of the alleged secrets of the church, and many of them were denied by the Scientologists.
