Youngkin's executive orders to focus on education, critical race theory

The school sexual assault case has received national attention, and Youngkin ordered an investigation into wrongdoing in Loudoun County. The order to empower Virginia parents to decide if their children should wear masks to school was included in the batches. Youngkin was helped to victory by his opponent, who said that parents should not tell schools what to teach.

Youngkin said he would "declare Virginia open for business" and echoed country-wide conservative opposition to measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 Omicron variant. In Florida, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has used similar language.

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative was one of the orders to withdraw. There was an order to establish a commission to fight antisemitism and another to fight human trafficking in the state.

Youngkin talked about education in his inauguration day speech. He spoke of the optimism for the future and a movement fueled by Virginians, including parents, students and teachers. The impacts of school shutdowns due to the coronaviruses were nodded at by him.

He told the crowd at the state Capitol that the impact of children who fell behind because their classrooms were locked down too long was felt by parents.

He pledged to raise standards for education in Virginia, including to raise teacher pay, create an innovation lab and charter schools of achievement within the public school system and invest in students with disabilities.

He said that politics would be removed from the classroom. We will focus on essential math and science. All of our history will be taught.

The subject of politics being too toxic was one of the topics of Youngkin's speech.

He said that people should not be disagreeable and that they should show respect to one another.
