The Dallas Cowboys will not win a sixth Super Bowl title for another year.

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the NFC East champion, 23-17, in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs on Sunday.

The result ends a three-game winning streak for Dallas in its rivalry with San Francisco.

The 49ers scored a touchdown on the first drive as Mitchell ran the ball in from four yards out.

The Niners scored 13 points in a row to start the game and led at the half. The Cowboys took advantage of a Jimmy Garoppolo pick six to take the lead. Dallas had a six point deficit to cut with 8:02 left.

The 49ers had a crucial first down inside the final two minutes because of a defensive holding penalty on Randy Gregory.

Dallas had one more chance. The game ended when the Cowboys couldn't get lined up in time.

Notable performers.

Jimmy Garoppolo was 16-of-25, 172 yards, one interception.

The 49ers have a running back who has 27 carries, 96 yards and one touchdown.

Deebo Samuel had 10 carries, 72 yards, one touchdown and three catches.

The quarterback for the Cowboys was 23 of 42 for 254 yards, one touchdown and one pick-six.

The Cowboys have a running back named "Ezra" who has 12 carries, 31 yards.

The Cowboys' Amari Cooper had six catches for 64 yards and one touchdown.

The 49ers have a game plan.

The 49ers beat the Vikings 27-10) in the divisional round of the playoffs two years ago. Jimmy Garoppolo was mistake-free through the air, while the running game was set by Samuel and Elijah Mitchell.

The touchdown run by Samuel in the third quarter was a bit of a backbreaker.

The Cowboys regained their footing in the third quarter after a terrible throw by Garoppolo. He threw the ball into the arms of Anthony Brown.

Nick Bosa left the game with a concussion, and Fred Warner injured his ankle on Dallas' drive after Brown's pick-six. Without their two best defenders, the 49ers had to hold on to the lead.

The offense lost steam after Samuel's touchdown run. Kyle Shanahan may not have helped matters by adopting an ultra-conservative approach.

The Cowboys were on the 49-yard line with 2:50 left when the punt was thrown.

You can win the game here. You just need a yard.

Kyle Shanahan is a smart offensive mind who can run the ball but can't grab a yard. Bleh.

The war of attrition turned into a battle of attrition.

The Cowboys' playoff utility continues.

There is no better example of the 2021 Cowboys than Trevon Diggs.

The 49ers had no concerns about testing him in single coverage and exploiting his penchant for biting on double, even though he was an All-Pro and a Pro Bowler for the first time.

Once again, Diggs gets burned. He's the best corner in the league.

The Cowboys won 12 games and ranked first in efficiency. This was a team that should've made the conference championship for the first time in 20 years, but they didn't.

The underlying issues in pass coverage may have been there the entire time.

They try to convince us to believe in the Cowboys. Every year, the same story.

The Cowboys had more penalties than any other team and gave up 89 yards.
Following a lackluster performance, it's likely that Prescott will be spared. Signing a four-year, $160 million contract comes with increased expectations, and the Cowboys will want more of a return on their investment than an opening-round playoff exit.

I watched all of the Weeks 9-17 tape of him and he is about as inaccurate today as he was then.

Jerry Jones might consider the direction of the team in the event of a loss on Sunday, according to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora. Mike McCarthy could be fired as a result of that change.
