The book of Boba Fett is written by Temuera Morrison.

The Book of Boba Fett has been mixed so far. I have to admit that I have become deeply skeptical of the new Star Wars Disney Plus show, despite the strong second episode.
You can read my review of Episode 1 here, and my review of Episode 2 here. I didn't write an episode review because I was so upset by it that I needed more time to think about why the episode is so bad.
The Book of Boba Fett has bigger problems than Episode 3. The main complaint I have with this show is the character of Boba Fett.
Boba Fett is too old in this show. In The Return Of The Jedi, Boba Fett would be older than 36 years old. The film was released five or six years ago, but the actor Temuera Morrison is 61 years old. Fett emerged from the pit with a paunch.
I am not trying to be a bad person here. Morrison does a good job in the role and the show proves that people in their late 50s and older can still be good. Morrison was born two years after Fennec Shand, which still blows my mind. I don't know how anyone looks good at 59.
The age here is a problem that I can't get past. It is weird that the Boba Fett who got knocked into the pit is 20 years older.
An odd choice for this time period. If he came back to Tatooine later in life, it wouldn't be a problem. The events of The Mandalorian's second season took place a few years after Return of the Jedi. It doesn't work. It is much harder here than in Mando's show.

Maybe it isn't the right word. Maybe we should call him Grunkle Boba, like Gravity Falls did. I like that.
The trailer for Star Wars 'Knights of Ren' has leaked online and it looks great.
The show is centered on a bounty hunter. He is not a bounty hunter. Mos Espa is a cousin-city of Mos Eisley and he is a strange Daimyo.
We knew that the strong and silent type of Boba Fett was hidden behind the helmet of Beskar Steel, but we didn't know he was ready to work alongside Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt without batting an eye.
Mando seems to be more similar to Boba Fett. It is weird. He is the bounty hunter. He is the strong, silent type. Pedro Pascal is in his 40s.
The Book of Boba Fett feels a bit too much like a movie. It can be interesting, especially in its Dances With Wolves segments, but it can feel a bit forced.

Episode 3 is just the third episode but also extremely anticlimactic, which is why it is called Episode 3.
The Twins were introduced in the second episode, and they were carried around on a litter. They arrived in Mos Espa to claim their cousin Jabba's throne. They brought Krrsantan, an evil Wookiee bounty hunter who has crossed paths with other famous Star Wars characters.
Is the evil Wookiee in the book of Boba Fett? Black Krrsantan is explained by the author.
The third episode does not have any of these characters. The Pyke Collective has been given control of Mos Espa by the mayor. The Pyke Collective is the international spice smuggling ring that the Tuskens and Boba Fett fought in Episode 2, taking down their glider train and demanding tribute for all passage across the desert.
We learned that Boba has bones to pick with fish-aliens. In the past, he would go to collect the tribute only to be told that the Pyke Collective wouldn't pay. When he returns to his tribe, he finds them dead, killed by the biker gang he beat up.
This is anticlimactic. The Pyke Collective is goofy, but a clash with the Hutts, a race of powerful alien criminals, would be more exciting. It's not right that the Tuskens who we just came to know and who barely welcomed Boba into their tribe all get killed off-screen. I get the tragedy of it, and how it can fuel Boba Fett's anger, but it seems too sudden and unearned.
The Twins are a team.

I think a show about revenge would be better. A more straightforward story of revenge, with Boba Fett a darker and more vengeful version of Mando, could have been really great.
Krrsantan tried to assassinate Man Who Would Be Daimyo. The intervention of the scooter kids helped him fail miserably.
The Wookiee puts up a good fight, but it still felt like a letdown. He is not very smart. I don't know how he got into the inner chambers. He is there all of a sudden. The fight is boring. When the Hutts show up to announce that they are giving up, Boba Fett doesn't keep Krrsantan prisoner or offer him a job as hired muscle. He let him go.
Okay, I'm glad, Grunkle Boba. You have gone soft in your old age.
I don't want this to be The Punisher. I don't think this is very compelling, or how anyone imagined the notorious bounty hunter.
There is a better middle ground. It doesn't mean that Boba Fett should spare everyone all the time. Being the boss of a crime organization requires some element of fear. It is a crime. He should start a bakery if he wants to rule with respect.
The scooter kids are one of the problems that highlights where this show goes wrong. The scooter bikes look like they came from Back To The Future II. They look fun, I would drive one for sure. They look like they were plucked from a different universe and dropped into Mos Espa as a joke.
I am not sure where The Book of Boba Fett is going after Episode 3. I don't like wild variations in quality between episodes, but that's how it is so far. The first episode was fine. The second episode was great. The third episode was bad. What can we expect from Episode 4? I don't really know what to think about The Mandalorian, even though it had better and worse episodes and was a little too meandering.
This show is in the shadow of that show and it is not enough for Boba Fett to be frightening. I am happy that he wants to learn to ride the beast, I loved the new Rancor and its surprising trainer (Danny Trejo!) and I am happy he wants to learn. When I imagined a TV show about a bounty hunter, I pictured him scratching his head. What can I say?
This is looking to be a pretty big letdown without some major improvements. I hope I am mistaken.
