The new Capital One Venture X rewards credit card was launched several weeks ago. I was approved for the card on launch day. I wanted to share my experience, and also share some trends that I am observing based on all the application data points provided by OMAAT readers since the card opened for applications.
I wanted to explain everything you need to know about getting approved for the Capital One Venture X.
The Capital One Venture X is for people who want to start a business.
The Capital One Venture X is worth applying for. The card has an annual fee of $395.
The Venture X has a welcome bonus of 100,000 bonus miles and a $200 vacation rental credit, which I think is the best credit card welcome bonus out there.
The Venture X has perks that should offset the annual fee, such as a $300 travel credit and 10,000 bonus anniversary miles.
The Venture X has access to Capital One Lounges, which is the first lounge opened at DFW, as well as a Priority Pass membership.
You can add up to four authorized users to the Venture X for free, and they will receive the same great perks.
The Venture X also offers a number of benefits, including the President's Circle elite status, primary rental car coverage, cell phone protection, and a TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry fee credit.
The card offers 2x Venture miles per dollar spent, which can be converted into 2x airline miles with a variety of programs, which makes it the best card for everyday spending.
This is an unbelievably rewarding card, and it competes favorably with the best premium cards out there.

Capital One Venture X eligibility requirements.
The Capital One Venture X may be the first Capital One product that people in the travel space apply for. There are a lot of rumors about Capital One, so let's go over the basics of eligibility. Overall, it is good news, and I think it is easier to get approved for this card than other Capital One cards.
Capital One has approval restrictions.
Capital One doesn't have any restrictions on being approved for new cards.
It doesn't matter whether you're personal or business, Capital One can only approve one card every six months. There are several data points of people being instantly approved despite having picked up another Capital One card.
There is a rumor that you can't have more than two Capital One personal credit cards at a time. There are many data points that suggest that this is no longer a policy, so I wouldn't put a lot of weight on that.
I think there are no hard-and-fast rules around Capital One card approvals.
What credit score is needed to be approved for the Venture X?
If you want to apply for the Capital One Venture X, you should have a credit score in the good to excellent category, as there is not a consistent rule as to what credit score you need to be approved.
If my credit score was under 700, I wouldn't apply, but I would hope to have a credit score of 740 or higher. Some people with lower scores than that report is approved, and some people with higher scores than that report is rejected. There are many factors that go into approval, including your income, credit history, and Capital One's extended credit.
If you have the Venture, can you get the Venture X?
You can. If you have another version of the Capital One Venture, you are eligible for the Capital One Venture X. If you apply for the card, you will be approved. You wouldn't be eligible for the new cardmember bonus if you changed your product.
Does Capital One deny credit?
Capital One is rumored to deny many people with excellent credit because they want customers who carry a balance and finance charges.
I can not speak to that. I have excellent credit and don't carry a balance, but I have seen people denied for Capital One cards because of that, though both of the Capital One cards I have applied for have been instant approvals. Some people who had been rejected for the standard Venture may be getting an instant approval, according to the data points we have seen.
I think that the Venture X might be easier to approve for than other Capital One cards, especially for those with excellent credit. Overall people who have excellent credit and don't carry a balance are reporting that they are being approved.
It does seem that people are being approved at a higher rate than we were expecting, but that is not to say that some people won't be denied. That is great news.

Does Capital One still pull from the credit bureaus?
Capital One is one of only a few issuers that pulls credit from all three credit bureaus when you apply for a card. I don't think this is a big deal at all. When you apply for a card, your score will be dinged a few points, and it really shouldn't matter how many bureaus your credit is pulled. This restriction has never bothered me, though I know others feel differently.
If you have frozen your credit, can you apply for the Venture X?
Some people choose to freeze their credit reports as a way of preventing identity theft. If you unfreeze your credit with just one or two of the three bureaus, you won't be able to apply for a card.
If you plan on applying for the Venture X, I would recommend unfreezing your credit with all three bureaus.
Which is the minimum credit line for the Venture X?
Visa Infinite products have a minimum credit line of $10,000 and the Venture X is a Visa Infinite Card.
The Venture X has a maximum credit line.
I haven't seen reports of credit lines of over $30,000. If anyone has a higher credit line, please report it.
How long does it take for the Venture X to be approved?
It really depends. Some people report getting instant approvals on the Venture X, while others may have their application status pending. If you are not instantly approved, don't worry, applications that require manual review can take several days.
What happens if you are denied for the Venture X?
Should you be concerned about getting denied if you don't know if you'll be approved for the Venture X? Getting denied for a credit card is not a big deal. It is not like a denial is reported negatively on your credit report if you apply again in the future. The inquiry will show on your credit report, but it won't affect your credit score.

My email address and phone number were asked for on the next page.
The next page asked for financial information, including employment status, income, my monthly rent or mortgage, basic information about what kind of accounts I have, how much I spend on credit cards, and if I typically carry a balance.
I was asked if I wanted to add more cardmembers if I am approved.
I was immediately approved with a huge credit line, after I was asked to confirm that all the information I provided was accurate. Ford also got an instant approval. Wow!
The bottom line.
The Capital One Venture X is open to applicants, and I was instantly approved. This is a new card that has both a welcome bonus and ongoing perks.
The card offers annual benefits that are more than justify the annual fee, and on top of that the card offers awesome lounge access perks, rental car status, a great return on everyday spending, and more.
If you applied for the Venture X, what data points did you have? What is the difference between instant approval and denial? The more information OMAAT readers can give, the better!
