Brooklyn Nets say Kevin Durant diagnosed with sprained MCL

The Brooklyn Nets announced Sunday morning that Kevin Durant had a sprained knee and would be out for a while.

The Nets did not give an estimated timetable for their star forward's return, only saying that he is expected to return to full strength following a period of rehabilitation.

There is optimism within the Nets that it will be a four- to six-week rehabilitation and return for KD. The Nets come out of the All-Star break in February and that's a good benchmark for a return by KD.

In the second quarter of the Nets' 120-105 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, Nets guard Bruce Brown fell backward into a standing-Behind-the-play Kevin Durant, who was standing behind the play.

The injury is overshadowing what had been a strong return for the formerMVP, who sat out the loss Thursday to the Oklahoma City Thunder to rest. In 12 minutes on Saturday, he had 12 points, three assists, and three steals.

The NBA's leading scorer is Kevin Durant with a 29.3 points per game average.
