Archive 81
There is a service called Netflix.
I was surprised to see a show called "Archive 81" appear on the top 10 list of the streaming service. I thought it was a foreign series, but that was not the case.
The show is a horror series that is adapted from a book or foreign series and is currently in its third season. I had never heard of this project before it was released.
Archive 81 is racing up the charts. It is the second most watched show in the US, and the #1 scripted series, given that the top show is a docu-series. Archive 81 has passed up other well-known films such as The Witcher and Emily in Paris with its debut, and could make it to number one with enough word of mouth recommendations.
Is it easy to recommend? It depends on your tastes. I finished Archive 81 in a single day, after sitting down to watch it and listening to it. It grabbed me to some extent. The show has a high critic score but a low user score. I have already seen that rise about 10%, and there aren't many reviews yet.

Archive 81 reminds me of Rosemary's Baby in that it is about a cult in an apartment building, but there is more going on than that. The show leans more towards horror than horror, and by the end, it feels like something from a HP Lovecraft story. There are small tentacles. There are no tentacles yet. If you are concerned about that, it is not very violent. It was not gory, but rather eerie.
The show is not a production of found footage. It spans two timelines, one where a main character, Dan, has to piece together footage from the 90s shot by a young filmmaker, but what you are actually watching is not grainy "found" footage all that often, as you will really just be jumping back and forth. It gets a little goofy to see a woman carrying her camera around, but that is always the idea of these types of movies.
Archive 81 goes a lot of places you wouldn't expect, creating engaging mysteries and ending on a cliffhanger that demands a second season. Who knows what the future holds because the show is still airing and there is a lot more material to cover. If this series keeps up, season 2 is a sure thing, because it is punching above its weight class in the Top 10 chart. Any horror fan should give it a try.
