The Federal Court upheld the immigration minister's decision to cancel the Serbian's visa, meaning he won't play in the Australian Open.

The first tennis major of the year, the Australian Open, begins on Monday. The world's top-ranked men's player's visa saga came to an end instead of him trying to break a 20-Grand Slam singles record.

He still faces the prospect of deportation, as he remains in limbo before the year's first tennis major starts Monday. It's a decision that is made by Australia's immigration minister, if he deems it in the public interest.

On January 6, 2022, the visa for the Serbian player was canceled.

The 20-time major winner was denied entry to the country and his visa was canceled after he was held for eight hours at the airport. The Australian Border Force says that he did not meet the entry requirements. The visa cancellation was the result of a review of the medical exemption that was supposed to shield him from the strict COVID-19 vaccine regulations, according to Health Minister Greg Hunt.

A public outcry surfaces on social media while the flight to Melbourne is in the air. According to The Age newspaper in Australia, a mistake with his visa application delayed his entry into the country.

Novak is being held in a room with police in front of him.

On Jan. 4, 2022, he announces he is going to Australia with a medical exemption.

After getting a medical exemption from getting vaccine against COVID-19, Novak Djokovic will compete at the tennis season's opening Grand Slam event. He posted a photo of himself at an airport on his social media accounts with a caption that said, "I'm heading Down Under with an exemption permission.'' Tennis Australia has confirmed that a medical exemption has been granted to Novak Djokovic following a rigorous review process involving two separate panels of medical experts.

Neither Tennis Australia nor the person who granted him the exemption revealed the reason for it. Craig Tiley said a "handful" of exemptions had been granted out of 26 applications.

Tiley is asked about the status of Novak.

Craig Tiley, the director of the Australian Open, was asked about the Serbian's participation in the Australian Open and responded: "There's quite a bit to play out and I think it will play out in the coming days.''

Craig Tiley confirmed that the Victorian state government made an order that everyone at the Australian Open must be vaccine free. At the time, it was not known whether or not the vaccine status of the man was unknown.
