Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby both endorsed Rich Bisaccia retaining the head-coaching job permanently following Las Vegas' season-ending 26-19 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the opening round of the playoffs on Saturday night.
The interim head coach was named after Jon Gruden's resignation.
Carr thinks that he's the right guy. People listen to him. Our team listens. I'm thankful for him because I love him so much. I don't get to make those decisions. If you look at what happened, all the pieces missing, everything that changed, he held it together.
Incognito and Good were both injured in the preseason and opener. He talked about the death of a woman in a high-speed car crash that led to the cut of wide receiver Henry Ruggs III. Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs was dinged up and unavailable at times, and Pro Bowl tight endDarren Waller missed five games down the stretch, as well as losing versatile running back Kenyan Drake to a knee injury in Week 13.
"You go on and on and on, and that's just offense," said Carr, who had driven the Raiders to the 9-yard line before being picked off at the 2-yard line with 12 seconds to play. I think that's what our organization is about, the fact that the staff kept everything together and kept us competitive and kept us finding ways to win football games. We'll see what happens. We know what we want to happen. Again, we're Raiders. We're going to play football, but we hope it's for someone special.
Carr said he would not talk about his future with the team. He signed a five-year extension in 2017.
He said his agent and Raiders have a good relationship.
"Lord knows there's been a lot of things to say?" Carr said something. I don't want a face-to-face when the time comes. I'm going to play quarterback, but my message will be discussed.
I'm not going to say we have to do something at dinner. I'm not that guy. I will let my voice be heard, but in a different way.
Crosby, who was just named second-team All-Pro, called the Raiders' leader a great leader.
Crosby said that everyone in the world knows what his decision would be if it was up to him. I love Rich. I'm biased, but he's a great coach, he came in and got us to 10 wins. We came on the road and gave Cincinnati everything they could handle.
One of the best people I know. I know one of the most honest guys. I will bat for him on any day of the week. I love that guy. He knows that. He's brought a lot to the table. I hope we keep doing it.
Raiders owner Mark Davis has remained silent on the team's head-coaching search, as well as on the futures of Carr and Mayock.
When asked if he thought about being elevated to the full-time job, he laughed.
He said that he was thinking about the guys in the locker room that had a chance to win at the end.
