DirecTV will drop Trump's favored news source, One America News Network

The news and opinion of the subscribers will have to be found somewhere else soon.

One America News Network will be dropped by the major satellite TV provider in April. OANN was available to DirecTV subscribers since the beginning of the year, and it rose to prominence in the wake of the 2020 presidential election, as the network continued to push conspiracy theories about the election even as Fox News stepped back from that particular ledge.

In a statement given to Bloomberg, DirecTV said the move was tied to a "routine internal review."

One doesn't need to look far to understand why a satellite provider wouldn't carry OANN. OANN's channel was demonetized and suspended by YouTube for pushing misinformation, and it has never been carried by competitors. The network's support of Donald Trump's allegations of election fraud has already prompted legal action.

According to a report from the year 2021, OANN got as much as 90 percent of its revenue from contracts with AT&T, which is a majority owner of DirecTV. The network would have no value without the deal with DirecTV, according to the accountant.

If the far-right news network can't find an equally plentiful source of funds, it could face serious financial troubles in the near future. We don't wish them luck.
