Timothy Olyphant returns to FX for new Justified miniseries

After seven years since the end of Justified, Timothy Olyphant is returning to the show as U.S. marshal Raylan Givens. It is actually a sequel series that will continue Givens' story after the events of Justified.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new miniseries is based on the novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit by Elmore Leonard. The character of Raylan Givens was not in the original book. During his six-season run as Givens on Justified, Olyphant established his character as a maverick who wasn't afraid to use lethal force. His harder edges seem to have been softened by parenthood.

The new series begins eight years after Justified season 6, with Raylan now living in Florida and co-parenting his daughter. Raylan will be drawn to Detroit for a confrontation with The Oklahoma Wildman. Clement is a violent, sociopathic desperado who has already slipped through the fingers of Detroit's finest once and wants to do so again. Clement is represented by a shady lawyer. Raylan will have to contend with both characters to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive.

The new Justified miniseries will be co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and FX. Dave Andron and Michael Dinner will be the executive producers. Graham Yost is attached as an executive producer.

When Justified: City Primeval is eventually released, it will likely run on the streaming service.
