One America News Network, which has spread conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and the safety of coronaviruses, will be dropped by one of its largest television distributors later this year.
One America News and its owners, the Herring family, were dealt a significant blow by the decision of the distributor, DirecTV. Losing its slot on the DirecTV lineup will affect the network's overall audience and revenue.
The reasons behind the decision were not explained.
A spokesman for DirecTV said in an email on Saturday that they did not plan to enter into a new contract when their current one expires. The Herrings own a second channel called AWE, which features lifestyle and entertainment programs.
On Saturday, Herring Networks did not respond to requests for comment. The move by DirecTV was first reported.
The chief White House correspondent for One America News derided DirecTV in a post on Friday that referred to the decision to drop the channel. Ms. Rion wrote that with moves like this, DirecTV would have to become state-owned to survive.
One America News started in San Diego. The network acted as a venue for viewpoints and coverage aligned with Donald J. Trump and his right-wing allies.
The results of the 2020 election have been questioned by its anchors. Two election technology companies, Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, have accused the channel of spreading false information to swing the election in favor of Biden.
One America News promoted a false theory that left-wingers were the primary instigators of the Capitol riot.
One America News ran a story on the anniversary of the Capitol attack that suggested the liberals were trying to strip patriotic Americans of their liberties. The headline was "Leftist, Media Narrative Surrounding January 6th, 2021. Simply an Excuse for Democrats to Seize Power."
The channel aired false and misleading reports about the safety and efficacy of coronaviruses vaccines. Pearson Sharp told viewers in June that the toll on human life was worse than anyone could have imagined.
One America News is carried by only one major television distributor, and that is DirecTV. The channel is also available to watch on the internet, and has more than one million subscribers on the popular video sharing website.
One America News has a complicated history.
In the wake of a lawsuit filed against AT&T, the channel has been carried by DirecTV. AT&T has a significant stake in DirecTV. One America News relied heavily on fees paid by AT&T-affiliated platforms to fund its operations, according to testimony from a network employee in a separate lawsuit.
