Two siblings in Ohio are facing felony charges for cutting down a 250-year-old tree.

Todd Jones and his wife believed the tree was on their property.

The stump of the tree was outside of the prosecutors' property line.

Cleveland officials said on Friday that two siblings in Ohio were charged with felony theft after they cut down a centuries-old Black Walnut tree and arranged to have it logged and sold for lumber.

According to Cleveland.com, the tree was one of the largest of its kind in the state.

The tree, which is more than 250 years old, was chopped down by Todd Jones and his wife, who are accused of doing so. Jones claimed the tree was on his property in Strongsville, a suburb about 16 miles outside of Cleveland.
Prosecutors argued that the tree was not on his property. They said the tree grew in a region owned by Cleveland Metroparks, which has 24,000 acres of nature reserves.

One of Greece's most valuable products is mastic tree.

The caption will look like this.

Mastiha, or mastic, is a tree material that is collected from mastic trees that grow in Chios. The price for 1 kilogram is $350. It's known as "white gold" for its health benefits and various uses in gum, cosmetics, and food. It isn't easy to harvest this resin. Farmers have to cut the trees with as many as 600 cuts. After each droplet has been collected by hand, it is possible to turn it into products. What is mastic used for? Why is it so expensive?

The charging documents say the stump was outside of their property line.

The two men were each charged with one count of theft by deception. According to the New York Times, both charges carry a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison.

It is very uncommon to find a black walnut of this size in Cleveland, given the threats to healthy tree growth.

Jones blamed his sister and became defensive when authorities told him that his mother-in-law had already told them that he and his sister had chopped it down, NBC News reported.
The tree was worth at least $28,800 according to the Cleveland Metroparks Police Department. Replacing the tree would cost over $100,000.

Jones told the police that it was not a crime of the century.
Jones and Hoffman don't think they should face charges.
Jones told Cleveland.com that they were doing this so ridiculous that they were crazy. This is crazy. There was no intent to hurt anyone.

In September last year, the director of natural resources at Cleveland Metroparks found a tree stump that had been cut.
"We will not allow people to cut down trees for profit on park property," said O'Malley, according to the Times.
