The Batgirl movie has been in the works at Warner Bros. for about five years, and they finally got In the Heights starLeslie Grace to play Barbara Gordon. The big news so far has been about the cast, with internet fave Brendan Fraser potentially as Firefly and the second Bruce Wayne movie coming from Michael Keaton. The first official image for the film was released on Friday night, and it shows Grace standing on a rooftop in a Batsuit.
Grace wrote for the caption that she used their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them underestimate me when their guard is down and their pride is rising. The origin of how she became the first modern Batgirl is from the 2003's Batgirl: Year One miniseries, written by Scott Berry and Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Marcos Martin. Jim, Firefly, Batman, and Killer Moth are believed to be in the film, as are her father.
The costume is from the fan favorite Batgirl of Burnside series by Brendan, Babs, and Cameron Stewart. Babs created the costume after moving to the trendy district of the same name. Her default costume is in the upcoming game. It is not known what else from those comics will be used in the film, such as Barbara's roommates or the focus on social media. Hopefully we will get more of Black Canary, since it was fun having Dinah in it. Hopefully the film does one of Batman's best partners justice, either way.
Batgirl will be an original film from the creators of Max.
