Georgia lt. gov. dismisses Trump, Carlson and Cruz as GOP leaders: 'It's time to move on'

Georgia's lieutenant governor believes that his party is at a fork in the road. He says Republican voters need to choose between believing in election fraud conspiracy theories and forging ahead with new leadership that will push the party toward a better place.

Duncan, who describes himself as a lifelong conservative, told Yahoo News that they are either going to play populism one on one or put genuine leadership on display.

Tucker Carlson and Ted Cruz are not the leaders of our party. I don't think that would lead us in the right direction.

He said it was time to turn the page. It's time to move on.

Duncan, Georgia's second in command behind Gov. Brian Kemp, went toe-to-toe with Donald Trump over his claims of election fraud and went on to become a national figure. In December 2020, Trump called Duncan corrupt and too dumb to recognize voter fraud. At a time when many Republican leaders supported Trump, Duncan pushed back.

When a sitting president is willing to lie to America and to their party about what the true realities of the election were and willing to stoke the fire and cause all types of disruptions, including the Capitol riot on January 6, to play

Most Republicans think that President Biden cheated to win the election, according to surveys. A Yahoo News/YouGov poll released last week showed that just 9 percent of Trump voters think Biden won the election.

Republicans can't seem to get on the same page when it comes to condemning the Capitol insurrection.

On the first anniversary of the pro-Trump riots, Kemp, Duncan, and the speaker of the Georgia House condemned the behavior of the rioters. Carlson mocked Cruz for calling the attack a terrorist attack.

Ted Cruz uses a lot of words. Carlson said on his program that he is a lawyer. He described the attack as violent. It was definitely not a terrorist attack. It was not an insurrection. Was it violent? Yes. It was not a terrorist attack.

Cruz apologized on Carlson's program.

Duncan is trying to push the idea of changing the Republican Party to one that puts policy above politics.

Duncan said that they forgot to have an encouraging tone and that they forgot to be more inclusive. That's not election fraud. That's our fault as a party.

GOP 2.0 is trying to put a safe place to call home for people like me that are fired up conservatives, and that's what they're trying to do. I believe in the conservative principles from the beginning. I don't think I have to be angry when I do it.

Duncan will not be running for reelection. He wants to connect with Americans all over the country through speeches, media events and a new book. He wants to run for elected office again in the future.

He said that he can't have a conversation with America if he wants to run for reelection in Georgia.

Both Kemp and Warnock will be on the ballot in Georgia this November. Kemp is facing a challenge from Perdue, who claims that he would not have certified Biden's victory in Georgia.

Georgia voters will now decide the trajectory of America, and Duncan hopes they land on the right side of history.

Many people on both sides of the aisle think that America's best days are behind us. That's not true. This is America. Our best days are ahead of us. We're going to be the proving ground for who's right.
