14 of the best movies streaming on Paramount+

Maybe it is time to give Paramount+ a try, if you have already watched any of their shows. Since 1916, Paramount has been making movies. It's seriously. Imagine John Wayne Westerns on a streamer. It is madness and we love it. Movies are forever!

There are 14 of our favorite movies from Paramount's library that can be watched on Paramount+.

1. The diary of a woman namedBridget Jones.

We are not hearing any opinions on the merits of the movie, thank you! Renée Zellweger gained 20 pounds to play the role of Bridget, a character that is already a beloved character in the UK. The Brits were angry about the casting of an American in a role that was stereotypically British, but the reviews were so good that they gave way to complaints.

The start of a film franchise, and the best movie of the lot, is the movie, "Bridget Jones's Diary." It tells the story of a woman in London who, after turning 32 alone, vows to lose weight, quit smoking, and find love. Colin Firth is the man who couldn't seem more wrong for Bridget in the Pride and Prejudice adaptation, and Hugh Grant is his charming boss. Even if you don't know where this funny and grounded rom-com is going, you will have a blast.

2. A quiet place.

John Krasinski went from actor to celebrated director with this hit. The Office star plays a farmer who protects his family from killer creatures that hunt by sound in a movie with his wife. The movie's characters can't scream because it would be their last. That means your own sounds of terror are weaponized while you watch, crashing into the silent soundscape that is suffocating in tension.

A Quiet Place is a superbly scary ride. The performances by Krasinski, Blunt, and their onscreen children are some of the best in the business. They make a feature that is perfect for a quiet night at home. The sequel to A Quiet Place, A Quiet Place: Part II, is also available.

3. Flight.
The lives of everyone on the plane were saved when William "Whip" Whitaker made a miracle landing after his plane suffered a mechanical failure. When an investigation reveals new details, his heroism is called into question. The Robert Zemeckis-directed drama was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, and it was Washington's portrayal of a flawed and complex man that got him a nomination. Flight is a character study that keeps us on the edge of our seats. Don't watch it on a plane. That would be foolish.

4. Election.

Reese was not always America's sweetheart. In Alexander Payne's vicious high-school political satire, she's Tracy Flick, the terrifyingly ambitious overachiever willing to do whatever it takes to win the race for student body president. Matthew Broderick played the embittered teacher who just can't stand to see her sail to the success she thinks she deserves, and slowly drives himself mad trying to get in her way. The edges are as sharp as ever after 20 years.

5. To catch a criminal.

Grace Kelly and Cary Grant are in a movie. The Silver Screen Collection is a collection of films.

To catch a thief is a half-suspense, half-romance whodunnit that is set against a sparkling Mediterranean backdrop. John Robie is a reformed jewel thief who is living in the French Riviera. He will have to find the real culprit before he takes the blame for a string of new robberies.
In this film, Grace Kelly is glowing as she plays a rich tourist whose belongings were stolen, and her Edith Head costumes are truly legendary. One of the prettiest classics is To catch a thief, where no one has a job and everyone speaks in double entendres. It was during the production of Thief that Grace Kelly met her future husband, the Prince of Monaco.

6. Hugo.

Hugo Cabret is trying to understand mysteries left behind by his late father, including a robot that can write with a pen, while living alone in a Paris train station. Hugo befriends Isabelle in a shared thirst for adventure which takes them through her past and her love for film, slowly but surely. Getting the youngins hooked on Martin Scorsese is nothing like that.

7. Escape from the island.

Clint Eastwood plays a convict as smart as he is tough in this classic action film. Frank Morris has a long list of offenses. He is searching for a way out when he arrives at the high-security prison. The bars, guards, and regulations aren't the greatest obstacles.

The island is far off the shore of San Francisco. Can Frank and his friends make their way to freedom on a homemade raft? Director Don Siegel brings a snarling edge to this tense tale of hardened men.

This isn't a typical alien movie. Arrival is a science fiction drama about 12 extraterrestrial ships that land across the globe. The countries scramble to get in touch with the aliens. Louise Banks was assigned to study the alien's language from their USA parking spot. The closer she gets to understanding the visitors intentions, the more she sees the world differently. Arrival is scenic and poses high-concept questions with sweeping shots of the Montana plains. It is a winning combination for science fiction. Amy Adams is at the top of her game and it goes without saying.

9. His girl Friday.

Hildy Johnson, the star reporter in this screwball rom-com, will take on one last assignment with her editor ex-husband before she retires to a quiet life of motherhood in this adaptation of The Front Page. If you're a fan of contemporary comedy, you'll love watching a woman in gorgeous skirt suits talk in a Mid-Atlantic accent, and you'll also love seeing a man with moxie and charm. Cary Grant plays the former boss who's still in love with her, and the film still crackles with energy and wit.

10. Life is wonderful.

Are you looking to cry? Life is beautiful for you. One of the highest-grossing non-English language films of all time, this touching Italian drama, once seen, will sear itself into your memory so you clutch your heart each time you think of it. Roberto Benigni is the director and writer of the film, which is about a young Jewish father in 1940s Italy. When his family is taken to an internment camp, he hides his son from the truth by pretending they are in a game, where hiding from the guards will earn him extra points. It is a film that can cause laughter and tears in equal measure. Put it at the top of your list if you haven't seen it before.

11. Saint Maud.
Rose Glass made her directorial debut with this riveting psychological horror film in 2020. In a squalid seaside town, a young nurse named Maud is devoted to God. As a private Hospice Caretaker, Maud develops a dark fascination for her patient's lust for life, booze, and sex.

Their volatile bond is electric with temptation and conflict, which ignites as Maud steps up her quest to save Amanda's soul. A battle of wills is reflected in the visual effects and sound design of the film. Punctuated with goosebump-pumping violence, swaddled in a sophisticated color palette of warmth and rot, and threaded by inky sexual tension, Saint Maud is an unnerving experience that will leave you in awe.

12. Mean girls.

We joke that you can't sit with us when our friends meet us late for dinner. Mean Girls set the standard for teen comedies. When it was first released in 2004, Tina Fey's movie was a box office sensation, and it still is. Cady Heron is a formerly home-schooled teenager with no clue how to navigate the strict and punishing social hierarchy of North Shore High School. Her new friends push her to join the popular crowd so they can take down the Queen Bee, a flawless Rachel McAdams.
Mean Girls is hilarious, quotable, and takes on the stakes of popularity in American high schools. Since we wear pink on Wednesdays and she doesn't even go here, we can keep enjoying this gem for decades to come.

13. The report was minority.

Philip K. Dick stories are used in all the best science-fiction movies. Minority Report was the firstBlade Runner, and Total Recall was the second. America has won the war on crime by using future-telling technology to arrest people before they commit their foretold crimes. Precrime Officer John Anderton is a strong believer in the power of his department until his name is on the arrest list for a murder. Minority Report is a science fiction story, a gripping action movie, and a mystery film all in one.

14. The conversation

The difference between life and death can be a single word.

Gene Hackman is a surveillance expert who has been hired to record a conversation between a couple as they stroll around a San Francisco park. Harry is a paranoid and isolated man who is obsessed with understanding who this couple is and what they meant by what they said.

He steps out of the shadows and into an uncomfortable spotlight to chase down his client's motives. He might be done with that move. The film from writer/director Francis Ford Coppola has received three Oscar nominations, including a nod for Best Picture.
