The Black Panther sequel will resume filming next week after a two-plus month shutdown. Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, was badly injured during a stunt and was unable to perform. She was supposed to start filming last week, but she is now said to be healthy and ready to go. Several cast and crew members caught covid-19, among them Oscar-winners.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, there are about four more weeks to go, and we think they will be Shuri-centered. After Wright was injured last year, production continued as the crew filmed everything she was not a part of. The production took a brief break after they finished that. If the majority of what is left are Shuri bits, you would think Wright will be in Atlanta, GA.
Wright's injury was said to be the main reason for the delay, but it was also speculated that she made anti-vaccination comments at the time. According to the Hollywood Reporter, several sources say that the issues have been resolved.
There is a new revelation about co-star Winston Duke. The actor who plays leader of the Wakandan Jabari tribe M'Baku in Black Panther is getting a hefty raise for his return, due to what is being described as an expanded role in the Panther mythos. It is interesting that he and Wright are the two top candidates to take over the mantle of Black Panther after the death of T'Challa. Is M'Baku the next Black Panther? Is it Shuri? Someone else? We will find out later this year.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has had its released date moved a few times, but it hasn't changed from its original November 11 debut. The film is the culmination of a huge year for the studio, which is currently riding the wave of Spider-Man: No Way Home and will have Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and THOR: Love and Thunder in theaters before.
