According to a recent Stein Line column, the Dallas Mavericks are looking into improving their frontcourt.

The Indiana Pacers and Atlanta Hawks are both said to be interested in engaging with the Mavs on center John Collins.

Dallas is trying to get into the trade mix for either John Collins or Myles Turner.

Turner is averaging 13.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. Collins is scoring 17.4 points and 8.0 rebound per game.

The Mavericks are in a similar position to have been in in the past two seasons: They're in the playoffs, but they're behind the Western Conference's elite.

The Mavs' 22-19 record is good enough for fifth, but they are five and a half games behind the Utah Jazz for fourth.

The Dallas Mavericks could make a move before the deadline in order to pose a threat to the current top four teams in the Western Conference.

Adding a productive big man to the mix will help Dallas improve its depth.

That person could help fill the void when he's out. After sitting 29 of a possible 72 games last season, Porzingis has missed 15 of 41 games this year.

He's been out since January 3 after entering the league's health-and-safety protocols.

Collins is more of an offensive threat than Turner, and he could help give Luka Doncic another go-to option to help ease the scoring burden. Turner is an excellent defensive big man and should provide more help down low.

Either could fit in well in Dallas, which has some decisions to make on the aforementioned Brunson and Finney-Smith. The man has averaged 16.0 points and 5.6 rebound per game this year.

Stein reported last November that the Mavs were confident that they'd agree to a contract extension with the guard by the June 30 deadline.

The Mavericks hope to keep both of them, given the significant roles they have seized.

Dallas is looking to get over a loss to the New York Knicks.

The Mavs are going to play the winner of 11 straight on Friday before opening a five-game homestand on Saturday.
