The Oakland A's have hired Brad Ausmus, the former manager of the Detroit Tigers and the Los Angeles Angels, to be their bench coach.

Tommy Everidge was promoted to major league hitting coach and Chris Cron was hired as an assistant hitting coach by the A's.

During the four-year period from the beginning of the 2014 to the end of the 2017 season, the Tigers won the American League Central Division and finished with a 314-332 regular-season record. The sudden death of Tyler Skaggs in the middle of the Angels' manager's first season was a major blow to the team.

Everidge was drafted by the A's in 2004, but he has spent the last eight years as a hitting coach in the farm system. Cron has been in the minor league system for eight years, most recently as the organization's field coordinating.

The hirings prompted Eric Martins to move from assistant hitting coach to first- base coach andDarren Bush to move from hitting coach to third base coach. The quality control coach will be Mike Aldrete. The new manager of the A's is a man who spent the last six years on the coaching staff. The A's allowed him to leave the final year of his contract to join the Padres.
