Video Appears to Show Drug Cartel Using Drone to Bomb Enemies

After MIT professor Max Tegmark warned about the dangers of SlaughterBots landing in the hands of drug traffickers, Vice is now reporting that drug militias are already using drones to drop bombs on their enemies.

In the Mexican state of Michoacn, drones dropped homemade explosives onto fleeing people.

The footage was recovered after the drone was shot down. Vice has yet to verify the authenticity of the video.

The report should come as a warning, as experts have already warned about criminals taking advantage of technologies to kill, a grim democratization of military technology which, if this video is authentic, appears to already be starting.

Drug wars.

El Pais reported that the drone belonged to members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Vice reports that the cartel has become one of the most vicious criminal organizations in the country over the last decade.

The drones have been weaponized.

It is a brutal trend. With no end in sight for Mexico's drug war, the warring groups will likely continue sparring, and they're adapting to a future in which killer technologies like drones are more accessible than ever.
