Aston Martin appoint Mike Krack as team principal

The team finished seventh in the championship.

Mike Krack was appointed as the team principal.

As part of the restructuring of the company, they want to become one of the leading players in F1.

Krack gained experience in management at BMW andPorsche. He was an engineer in F1 for Sauber.

The 49-year-old said his new role was a challenge that he would embrace with enthusiasm.

Three years ago, McLaren signed former Porsche boss Andreas Seidl as team principal.

McLaren has been restructured and returned to a competitive position under the leadership of the man who worked at BMW and Porsche, Krack.

Krack's appointment was made possible by the help of Martin Whitmarsh, the former McLaren team boss who joined as chief executive officer last year.

"Mike Krack is the right kind of team principal, dynamic and modern," said the statement.

Mike has a blend of experience and expertise that makes him the ideal choice for us, having worked in very senior positions at both BMW and Porsche, as well as an engineering background in Formula 1 with Sauber.

He works well with drivers and engineers because he speaks their language and prioritised that aspect of his role at BMW.

Krack is the latest in a series of major appointments as the team seeks to become one of the main players in F1.

Dan Fallows, the head of Red Bull's aerodynamics, was hired as their new technical director last year, but it's not clear when he'll start work.

Lawrence Stroll said that they are hiring new people every week. The new factory build is going well.

We have a great roster of sponsors. The objective of the second year of our five-year plan is to win the Formula 1 World Championships.

All the ingredients are coming together. Our collective aim is to fulfill those lofty ambitions, and Mike will play a central role, reporting to Martin and leading our technical and operational functions. We are on our way.

Krack worked with four-time champion Sebastian Vettel when he was starting his career.

In 2006 and 2007, Krack was an engineer for BMW-Sauber and he worked with Sebastian Vettel, who was the team's test driver.

It will be great to be back with him, I have huge respect for his speed and ability.

Lance Stroll is a very fast and talented driver and I am looking forward to working with him.

The industry name for an outfit that started as Jordan in 1991 and has gone through several different guises before becoming Aston Martin has always impressed me.

It has a lot of talented people and real racers. The culture and values of a racer are what is required to succeed in racing.
