Biden has urged employers to 'do the right thing' and enforce COVID-19 vaccine mandates after losing his Supreme Court case

The US Supreme Court blocked the administration's vaccine-or-testing mandate on Thursday, prompting President Joe Biden to urge employers to do the right thing.

Biden said in a statement that it was up to states and employers to decide whether to make the workplace safe by mandating vaccines or testing.

The court ruled that my administration cannot use the authority granted to it by Congress to require this measure, but that doesn't stop me from using my voice as president to advocate for employers to do the right thing to protect Americans' health and economy.

He called on business leaders to join those who have already stepped up and institute vaccinations to protect their workers, customers, and communities.

The mandate would have applied to private businesses with more than 100 employees, and would have required staff who refused vaccinations to be tested once a week and wear a mask at work, with exemptions for religious reasons.

Some companies have introduced their own vaccine mandates, with some making the shots a condition for corporate staff to return to the office, and others saying they'll fire unvaccinated workers.

The vaccine mandate for healthcare workers at federally-funded facilities was allowed by the Supreme Court despite it being blocked by the private employer mandate.
