One of the NBA's other big-market teams was interested in Reddish before the Atlanta Hawks sent him to New York.

The Los Lakers were interested in a Reddish deal prior to the trade to New York, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. The Eastern Conference team wanted a first-round pick and the Lakers offered Atlanta two second-round picks.

The Hawks got a protected first-round pick via the Charlotte Hornets, according to the report. Solomon Hill was acquired by the Knicks via the Brooklyn Nets.

It was somewhat surprising to see the Hawks move Reddish less than three years after selecting him with the 10th overall pick in the NBA draft.

After last season's Eastern Conference Finals appearance, the team decided to make a change and is currently looking at a 17-23 record. There is a lot of depth on the wing thanks to the presence of Kevin Huerter, De'Andre Hunter, and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot.

Los Angeles was justified in their interest in Reddish since he would be an ideal complement to the other players.

The Lakers need more outside shooting, especially with the struggles of Westbrook from beyond the line. Reddish is hitting a career-best 37.9% of his shots from deep and could either provide a spark off the bench or play in the starting lineup.

Reddish could have done something similar to Monk, who has played some of the best basketball of his career by taking advantage of the openings created by the attention Los Angeles' star players command from defenses.

He will be joining a Knicks team that lost in the playoffs last season.

New York is currently in a race with Atlanta and others for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but is 4-2 in its last five games after Wednesday's win over the Dallas Mavericks.

The Knicks have suffered a lot of injuries in their backcourt with the trade of Kemba Walker.
