Recapping Rumors About Under-Screen Face ID and Touch ID on Future iPhones

Ross Young, a display industry consultant, claimed this week that the new models of the phone will have hole-punch and pill-shaped cutouts. If the design is correct, it will not allow Face ID under the display this year.

We have put together a recap of everything that we have heard about Face ID and Touch ID on future phones.

Under the display, there is a face ID.

Young claimed that the Face ID camera will not be moved under the display until at least the year 2039 or 2036, suggesting that Face ID won't be fully under the display until the next year.

In an April 2021 research note, oft-accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that he expects Apple to adopt under-display Face ID for at least one new iPhone model launching in 2023, but he did not provide any further details at the time.

In a note to investors, Apple's chief analyst, Taiwo "TJ" Kuo, said that he expects Apple to adopt a periscope lens and under-display Face ID in 2023.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple tested an under-screen fingerprint sensor for some of the iPhone 13 models, but decided not to move forward with the idea.

In a September 2021 research note, Apple's senior analyst, Ronald Kuo, predicted that Apple would launch at least one new model with an under-screen fingerprint sensor in the second half of 2023, but he has not shared any further information since then.

The new 2H23 iPhone will have under-display fingerprints.

The power button has a touch ID on it.

Touch ID is integrated into the power button on the latest iPad Air and iPad mini models, but not yet.

In December of last year, Apple's senior designer, Ronald Kuo, predicted that the company would release a larger version of the iPhone in the first half of 2021, with Touch ID integrated into the side power button. There are rumors that Apple will release a larger iPhone in the year 2024, and that it will have a Touch ID power button.

Summary.

It is not clear if Apple will release an iPhone with both Face ID and Touch ID, but it is possible.

The larger the phone, the more likely it is that a Touch ID power button will be included.
