Wow, a New Quantum Leap Show Might Actually Happen

The fate of Dr. Sam Beckett may be revealed. NBC has ordered a pilot for a new version of Quantum Leap that will take place 30 years after the original show ended. It will follow a new team that has been put together to bring back the Quantum Leap project and hopefully figure out what happened to Sam.

Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt are the executive producers of the show. Donald P. Bellisario is a producer. It sounds like Scott Bakula would be in a supporting or even a cameo role, even if he were to come back.

The story of Sam Beckett was told in five seasons of Quantum Leap. He was guided by his best friend Al, played by the late Dean Stockwell, who appeared to him as a hologram. The conclusion of the series made fans sad, as they were told that Sam would be stuck doing this forever.

The return of Quantum Leap has been a foregone conclusion. Bellisario said he wrote a movie based on the show, a more positive alternate ending surfaced, and he said he had heard the show might make a comeback. If the NBC executives like the pilot enough to give it a few more episodes, then it will air.

When it was released, Quantum Leap was ahead of its time in terms of mystery and world building, while also being light and accessible to an audience who maybe wasn't as into the sci-fi stuff. The rise of sci-fi to the top of pop culture could make the show as successful as it once was. It's impossible to crack a nut.
