According to reports, Brian Flores preferred Mac Jones over Tua Tagovailoa.
I think Brian Flores would have told Tagovailoa that he should have picked Mac Jones. I think he was telling the truth. "I know that he wasn't," Michael said on the GM Shuffle.
During the regular season, a former executive with several teams, including the New England Patriots, criticized Tagovailoa.
"If I'd known you were going to be this bad, I would have picked Mac Jones," Flores told the quarterback.
Despite a 9-8 record this season and 19 wins over the last two years in Miami, Flores was fired on Monday.
Tagovailoa was the fifth overall pick in the draft in the year of 2021, and he has been up-and-down on the field since then, totaling 27 touchdown and 15 interceptions in 23 games.
During the last nine games of the season, Miami won eight of them, but Tagovailoa only had nine passing touchdown in eight games.
After he got the starting job, the young man was benched for a while and sat behind Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The team could have taken a quarterback with the third pick, but instead chose receiver Jaylen Waddle.
After the Dolphins made their pick, they took Justin Fields and Mac Jones.
Flores spent 15 seasons as a coach with the Pats before becoming the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. The New England quarterback finished the year with 3,801 passing yards and 22 touchdown passes in 17 starts, helping the team to a 10-7 record.
It's not known if the Dolphins would have been better off with Jones under center, but the direct criticism to Tagovailoa might have hurt Flores in the locker room.
