JuJu Smith-Schuster is back. Kind of.

The fifth-year receiver returned to practice Thursday after the team placed him on injured reserve. The Steelers have 21 days to put him on the active roster. Washington was activated from the reserve list. Smith-Schuster had surgery on his shoulder after he was injured against the Broncos in Week 5.

After the surgery, Smith-Schuster posted on social media that he would be out for the rest of the season, but he admitted last month that there was a chance he could return this season.

When asked if he could come back, Smith-Schuster said he could. Either one works for me.

I could possibly come back and participate in the championship. That's where I am right now. I'm trying to get after it and rehabilitate as much as possible. You never know.

Smith-Schuster put the percentage of him returning at 5%, but it appears that he could play again this season, as early as Sunday's wild-card game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Smith-Schuster has just 15 catches for 129 yards this season. Since Smith-Schuster went out, Ray-Ray McCloud has filled his role as a slot receiver, catching 39 catches for 277 yards.

Smith-Schuster will be a free agent again in the off-season after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Steelers. He is not ruling out staying in Pittsburgh.

Smith-Schuster knows what free agency is like because he has done it before. I think I'll be fine. It's a new market. The Steelers are one of the top teams and there's more money involved. We're not talking to anyone right now. We will let it play out in March and February.

The Steelers are still a priority, but it depends on how they move their pieces. Who is the future? They have to pay the guys. It is still a top priority.
