We stumbled into a Star Wars-related controversy for Chapter 3 this week after everyone was singing The Book of Boba Fett's praises last week. Something has to do with the gang of youths that Boba Fett recruits to be his defacto army as he attempts to control Mos Espa's underworld.
The main controversy is based on a meme that questions whether the kids and their hover...vespas are a part of a movie.
There is a debate going on about whether these kids and their scooters look out of place in Star Wars or Tatooine, or whether this is something that is extremely Star Wars, given George Lucas's past.
Some fans point out that Lucas was a huge fan of hot rods and included a diner in the prequels, and that he was a huge fan of the film American Graffiti. Some people talk about the influences that helped create these scooters, including Japanese bike gangs and the British Mod scene.
I am split on this. I don't want to say that Star Wars isn't true, as that's kind of a "no true Scotsman" debate that involves a lot of fan gatekeeping and being annoying. I don't like the scooters or the aesthetic of the youth gang. This does not apply to the actors. It is great that Yellowjacket'sSophie Thatcher is in a movie. The gang was out of place.
The main issue for me is the look. It doesn't make sense to have shiny hover vespas in a place where kids need to steal water to survive, while I can see them trying to look different. I don't understand why the guys wear these pretty formal outfits when they're supposed to be a bunch of ragged kids on the street. Thatcher is dressed like a goth character.

The stuff from the movies? That is cool, the parts are fine. Everything else feels weird and out of place to me. I am not saying it is not Star Wars, but it is not very good. I would extend that to the rest of the show,Fennec's look is boring, Fett's armor-over-robes ensemble looks kind of sloppy, even if I understand its Tusken origins.
Star Wars fans argue about anything, and youths with rainbow vespas is no different. I don't like the concept and execution of the movie, but I agree that George Lucas could do something like this if he wanted to. That is not a compliment.
