The real-world data from Singapore shows that Sinovac's vaccine is less effective at preventing deaths than Pfizer and Moderna shots.
The company said it is giving the data to health authorities around the world because of the urgent need for third dose boosters.

Sir Mene Pangalos said the data show the shot has an important role to play as a third dose booster.
Professor Sir Andrew Pollard, who leads the Oxford Vaccine Group at the University of Oxford, said: "These important studies show that a third dose of Vaxzevria after two initial doses of the same vaccine, or after mRNA or inactivated vaccines, strongly boosts immunity against Covid-19
What to watch for.

In the first half of 2022, further analyses from the trial are expected.

The key background.

Evidence shows that the protection generated by vaccines can diminish over time, and that the omicron variant is better able to skirt immunity from vaccination or previous infections. Booster shots are used to counter this. Many countries, including the U.S., are rapidly rolling out third shots and some schools and businesses have updated their definition of fully vaccineed to accommodate the additional shot, something the federal government does not intend to do at this time. Pfizer and Moderna have existing mRNA vaccines that provide high levels of protection against omicron.

Companies say that the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 Booster is neutralizing the Omicron variant.

Pfizer CEO is unsure whether the vaccine shots are necessary.
