Apple settled a long-running lawsuit over employee bag checks in November of last year, and now details about the settlement are available on the company's website.
In 2015, a class action lawsuit was filed by California employees against Apple. Employees said that Apple made them do mandatory bag checks after the end of their shift, which made them stay at work an extra 10 to 15 minutes.
Apple said that bag searches made it clear that employees were not hiding stolen electronics. Apple argued that employees who did not want to go through a bag search could simply not bring a bag to work.
Apple and lawyers for the Apple employees in California reached a settlement last year and asked a judge to approve it in November. More than 14,000 workers will receive payments based on their shifts, as a result of Apple's agreement to pay nearly $30 million. Current and former Apple employees will be receiving emails and letters from the company with information about their potential payment amount.
There are documents available for California employees who were subjected to bag checks between July 25, 2009, and August 10, 2015, on Apple's legal website.
Apple has not conducted bag searches since 2015. July 7, 2022, is when the Final Approval Hearing for the settlement will take place.
