Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes Dead at 78

It was.

The lead singer of The Ronettes, known for songs like "Be My Baby," has died.

Her family said she died in the arms of her husband after a brief battle with cancer.

The Ronettes formed in 1957 and were the first of their kind.

The Ronettes were the third best singing group in England in 1965, behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

The group's trajectory soared when they hooked up with Phil Spector, who created the famous "Wall of Sound."

They scored with "Be My Baby," "Walking in the Rain," "Baby, I Love You," and "Chapel of Love." They did a number of hit XMAS songs, including "Frosty the Snowman," "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree."

In 2007, the Ronettes were in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Phil andRonnie separated in 1972. She fled their home barefoot because Phil hid her shoes so she wouldn't leave. He put barbed wire around the perimeter of their home to keep her from escaping.

In 1988 the group sued Phil Spector for not paying royalties.

In the 1980's, she sang on Eddie Money's hit song, "Take Me Home Tonight."

Get this. The Ronettes' second top 10 hit was "Sleigh Ride", which reached #10 on the charts.

In 1982 she married her manager, Jonathan Greenfield. They have two sons.

The man was 78. I am sad.
