Carabao Cup semi-final second leg: Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 agg)

In September, Antonio Rudiger scored in a victory over Spurs.

The semi-finals of the Carabao Cup were won by the Blues as they beat Spurs.

Spurs never seriously threatened to overturn the two-goal first-leg deficit and Antonio Rudiger's bundled finish from Mason Mount's corner after 18 minutes effectively confirmed a Wembley date with eitherArsenal orLiverpool.

It was a night of frustration for Spurs and their former manager Antonio Conte as they saw two penalties awarded by the referee for fouls on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Lucas Moura.

The second-half performance from Spurs was better than the first, but they were denied a goal by an obstruction, and once they had extended their lead, they were able to control affairs.

The game was stopped late in the game after a medical emergency in the crowd, but on the restart, they completed their victory.

The huge task was exposed.

The size of the job that Spurs manager Antonio Conte is doing in revitalizing this club was obvious to everyone, and there were no doubts about that diagnosis.

It was not clear why Hugo Lloris was rested and replaced by Pierluigi Gollini in the second leg of the tie.

Gollini distinguished himself when he saved with his legs from Romelu Lukaku early on but was at fault when he made an unconvincing dash to claim Mount's corner, a move that ended badly when the ball was diverted into net via Rudiger's back.

This job required the presence of Lloris when Spurs' margin of error was not very good.

Spurs did mount a challenge after the break but it was too little, too late, and this was a mediocre display that only showed how much work is needed.

Kane battled but remains short of his best form while there was a lack of creativity in the middle that allowed the Blues to contain Spurs with relative comfort.

If his drive and ambition is to be satisfied, Daniel Levy will be expecting serious backing from him. He has a squad that needs serious investment before he can think of getting near the elite.

Tuchel shows magic.

Since Thomas Tuchel took over, he has led the team to three successive finals.

He guided them to the FA Cup final last season, which they lost toLeicester City, before they won the biggest European club prize of all time, the European Championship.

The job of reaching the final of the EFL Cup was done in the first game, but it was clear from the way they came out here that they were determined to snuff out Spurs' hopes as quickly as possible.

The early goal they desired came from Rudiger, which gave Spurs a task they never looked like completing.

When the intensity dropped in the second half and a little complacency crept into their game, Tuchel cut a dissatisfied figure.

The tie was played out in a testimonial atmosphere in the closing minutes as Spurs fans deserted the stadium in droves, leaving one corner packed with joyous, celebrating visiting supporters.

The strength of the squad was shown once more as Tuchel was able to bring on Thiago Silva, Marcos Alonso, and others in the second half to make sure the door was never left ajar for Spurs. It was slammed into their faces.

It shows the scale of the job Tuchel has done in 350 days since he took over, he has guided them to a cup final in the FA Cup and a place in the European Championship.

On this evidence, it's clear that whoever they face at Wembley at the end of February will be stopped.
