Apple is being accused of keeping its users at arm's length with its iMessage service. The company has been stubborn about not allowing iMessage on the platform. The problem has evolved to one where they are not asking to bring iMessage to Android but instead want to bring it to iMessage with RCS support.
We want to know which approach you would prefer Apple to take.
The reason why Apple doesn't want to bring the app to the other platform is because it's a powerful lock-in tool, and it can't risk losing that. It's not clear why Apple wouldn't support RCS, given its benefits.
The argument could be made that the message around messaging has been a mess. We once wrote that Apple's support of RCS wouldn't really take off unless it did. Major U.S. carriers have supported Google's endeavor by making their messages the default on their phones, making Apple the main holdout.
We would like to think that we wouldn't have to worry about Apple supporting RCS if it were not for it. Would they still show up green? Would features translate better than they are now? The reverse could be true, because the company has already been working on making iMessage reactions display properly on the phone.
It would be cool to have iMessage on the phone, but it could end up being a lot of work. Hiroshi Lockheimer makes a good case for the benefits of RCS on iMessage.
