The first training camp of the year for the U.S. women's national team has been called in by coach Vlatko Andonovski and includes Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman.

Rodman, who was the NWSL's rookies of the year in 2021, is getting his first call-up. She isn't the only uncapped player in the camp, with Washington Spirit goalkeeper, and fellow uncapped player, Aubrey Kingsbury also taking part. The camp will be held in Austin, Texas, and Naomi will be joining the team for the second time.

The camp will run from January 19-28 and Andonovski wants to see some of the rising stars before the SheBelieves Cup.

"We can get in some more intense trainings and full-field scrimmages, which is great as we need to give this group as many chances as possible to play together in a national team environment," said Andonovski.

"We know that some of the players are coming off a break, so we'll keep that in mind as we hit the ground running in 2022, for what will be a very important year for these players and our team."

Several veterans, including goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, defender Kelley O'Hara, and forward Mallory Pugh, are back on Andonovski's roster. Naeher injured her knee in the semifinals.

Rodman is still eligible for the Under-20 Women's World Cup in 2022. She was called up for the Australian games, but decided not to go.

Had the Under-20 Women's World Cup not been canceled due to the swine flu, she would have played in it and had nine career U20 international goals.

She was one of the most exciting players in the league this past season, and she proved that she can be impactful at the professional level. She earned a call-up for the national team after that.

We don't want to rush anything. We have to be patient. We want to expose her to the environment where she can get her feet wet, get used to the environment, and hopefully she can continue growing and show that.

A replacement for Catarina Macario, who was on the roster until the French Cup draw, would be announced before Thursday.

If Cat stays in France, she will play the game against Montpelier and then play the game against Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16.

Instead of coming here, traveling overseas, a couple of trainings and then going back or travel again to play a game, that's what they're doing. It will be better for Cat to play two exceptional games, good experience, high stress, intense games.
