Judge rejects Prince Andrew’s bid to dismiss Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit

Prince Andrew is with Virginia Giuffre and Ghislain Maxwell.

A federal judge in New York rejected a request by Prince Andrew of Britain to dismiss a lawsuit accusing him of having sex with a girl when she was younger.

Andrew, a son of Queen Elizabeth II, had been a friend of the eccentric money manager, who many women say sexually abused them as girls and as young women.

Giuffre claims in her lawsuit that she had sex with Andrew at the direction of Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted last week of procuring other girls to be abused by billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew denied Giuffre's claims in the civil suit, which sought monetary damages for battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The judge noted that the case was not dismissed because of a finding that Giuffre's claims are true, but because a jury will decide the case.

Kaplan said that he was allowing the suit to proceed because it was still an open question of whether a civil settlement Giuffre reached with Epstein also released Andrew from any legal liability because of his alleged actions against her.

According to the New York City medical examiner's office, Epstein died from hanging in a Manhattan federal jail while awaiting trial on child sex trafficking charges.

Donald Trump and Bill Clinton were both friends with Andrew.
