‘The Party Is Over’: U.K.’s Boris Johnson Faces Calls To Resign After He Admits Attending Downing Street Gathering During Lockdown

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson apologized on Wednesday after admitting he attended an alcohol-filled garden party at 10 Downing Street at the height of the country's first Pandemic.

At the start of the weekly Prime Minister's Questions in Parliament, Johnson admitted to attending a gathering in the garden of Number 10 on May 20, 2020, at which point the U.K. was under a Covid lock down.
Johnson said that he should have sent everyone back inside after he attended the gathering for 25 minutes.

Keir Starmer, the leader of the opposition, said that Johnson was a man without shame and that he didn't know the gathering was a party.
The leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey, called on the prime minister to resign.
The leader of the Scottish Conservatives, Douglas Ross, said that Johnson could not stay on as prime minister if he attended the party.

There have been a number of scandals involving the government's handling of the Pandemic, the awarding of valuable contracts, and the refurbishment of buildings. Johnson had previously claimed that he broke no rules when he attended the events during the lock down.
