WhatsApp Tests Ability to Play Voice Messages Outside of Chat Threads

A new feature in the app allows users to listen to a voice message after they've left the chat thread.

A global voice note player is in the works and will let users listen to voice messages in the background while navigating around the app.

If you play a voice note and then exit the chat thread in which the note was received, then you will not be able to play it again. The idea is that you can still listen to long recordings while you read other messages.

If you play a voice note and then switch to a different chat thread, you will see a new voice message interface at the top of the app with buttons to pause, resume, or dismiss the voice note.

If you can't listen to voice notes when you exit a chat, sit tight and wait for the next update, as the feature has only been released to a few people.

It's not known when the global voice note player will go mainstream, but given the feature is now available to bothAndroid andiOS users on the beta, it shouldn't be too long.
