3x Olympic track star, Deon Lendore has tragically died in a car crash.
He was 29 years old.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Lendore's car crossed over the center line and hit a vehicle coming the opposite way on Monday.
Lendore crashed into a SUV head-on again after drifting over the center line.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says that Lendore was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the car was taken to the hospital with "incapacitating injuries".
The driver that was hit did not sustain any injuries.
The Trinidadian sprinter won a bronze medal in the 4x400 meter at the 2012 games in London and competed in 3 Olympics.
In 2015, Lendore won a silver medal in the World 4x400m.
He was a volunteer coach for the 400 and 800-meter student-athletes at Texas A&M.
Gwen Berry, a two-time Olympian, was one of the track stars who reacted to the tragic news on social media. Rest in power.
Berry said that he learned last year that the importance of living was important. Don't die just to live. I have been happier ever since.
"We are deeply sad by the passing of Deon Lendore, who has been a part of the PUMA Family since 2017," the statement said.
He chose us to be by his side for a large part of his track and field career. Our thoughts are with his family. Rest in peace.
I am sad.
