Jan. 6 Committee Seeks Info From Rudy Giuliani, Chairman Says

The committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol plans to reach out to former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani.

Thompson confirmed to CNN that the committee will contact Giuliani at some point, but it is unclear when.

Thompson said that the committee plans to talk to Giuliani and that he is anintegral part of the investigation.

According to reports, Giuliani was part of a small group of former President Donald Trump's advisors present at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC, before January 6, 2021.

Giuliani did not reply to Forbes.

It is not clear whether Giuliani will be asked to cooperate with the investigation or be issued a subpoena, which would compel him to comply or face criminal contempt of Congress charges. In November, a committee member said the committee was interested in hearing from Giuliani and could subpoena him.

Giuliani was responsible for leading the unsuccessful legal challenges to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. The committee has subpoenaed dozens of former Trump advisors as part of its investigation, but Trump and several of his associates have refused to comply, claiming executive privilege shields them from having to testify. Fox News host Sean Hannity refused to meet with investigators.

The contempt of Congress charges were brought against the former chief strategist after he refused to comply with the subpoena. His trial is set to begin on July 18. The House voted last month to hold former White House chief of staff MarkMeadows in contempt, though he hasn't been indicted by the Justice Department yet.

According to a report, Trump had top advisers about changing election hours.

Stephen Miller and Kayleigh McEnany were subpoenaed by the House.

The committee asked Sean Hannity to cooperate with the investigation.

The contempt trial will be held in July after he ignored the committee's subpoena.
