Tumblr adds a sensitive content toggle on iOS to comply with App Store rules

For weeks, Tumblr hid search results on the App Store to comply with guidelines. The issue of sensitive content is being solved by the introduction of a sensitive content toggle for the iOS app. You can opt out of seeing sensitive content.

When you search for a sensitive tag, the updated app will hide the results. If you want to see the results of your search, you'll have to turn off the sensitive content filter. If you click on the "show me the settings" option, you will be taken to the Tumblr website on your mobile browser, not an in-app menu. You have to restart the app for the change to take effect after you change your settings. You will be able to see the fan art of Baby Yoda hitting a blunt in search results.

The app will hide recommendations that have sensitive tags, as well as searches with sensitive tags, when the "Hide Sensitive Content" option is enabled. Explicit content is not quite as explicit as adult content, which is defined as images, videos or illustrations depicting sex or genitals. Adult content is not allowed. The distinction between adult and explicit content is a topic that has yet to be explained.

When the new toggle is disabled, users can see sensitive search results that don't violate community guidelines, but the explicit content will still be hidden on the mobile device. Users who have the toggle disabled will receive recommendations of potentially sensitive content.

The warning pop-up may still occur if some seemingly benign tags are enabled. The tag submission is banned unless you opt out of the sensitive content filter, due to the word's sexual context. The tag is often used in a non-sexual way on the platform, and this is an issue.

In previous years, the site offered a switch that would block the site's adult material if a user chose to see it. Before it banned all porn from its platform back in 2018, the toggle had focused on banning the pornographic content that was hosted on the site.

The latest updates give us more control over the experience that we can build for our community on the app, and to explore the content that they find interesting, according to a company post. The experience for our community is a top priority, but we must also comply with Apple's App Store Guidelines and our own guidelines.
