The head of the U.S. Soccer Federation said in a letter to fans that the unions for the women's and men's national teams have not committed to a single-pay structure.
The federation went public with its proposal in September and met with the two unions in November, which are not obligated to reach similar collective bargaining agreements under federal law.

Cindy Parlow Cone, president of the federation, wrote Tuesday that they have been encouraged that the unions are willing to join them in discussions about a single pay structure.
We will not agree to any collective bargaining agreement that does not include the commitment from the two unions to equalize the prize money for the World Cup.
The executive director of the U.S. Women's National Team Players Association and the acting executive director of the U.S. National Soccer Team Players Association did not respond to emails.
Carlos Cordeiro quit as USSF president in March 2020 after the group's lawyers filed legal papers claiming the women's national team players had less physical ability and responsibility than their male counterparts. The USSF's national council will meet in Atlanta on March 5, and Cordeiro will be vying for the job.
The women's team players sued the federation in March, claiming they had not been paid the same as the men's team under the collective bargaining agreement that ran through December 2021.
The judge granted a summary judgment to the federation on the pay claim, and the sides settled the portion of the suit that alleged discrimination. The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments on March 7.
"U.S. Soccer remains committed to resolving this case outside of court for the long-term benefit of the sport at all levels," Parlow Cone wrote. We would be happy to settle so that we can work together to chart a more positive and collaborative path.
The prize money for the 32 teams at the men's World Cup was $400 million. The US won their second straight title at the Women's World Cup and received $4 million.
The total for the men's World Cup has been increased to $440 million, and Infantino wants to double the women's prize money to $60 million for the Women's World Cup in 2023. The women's collective bargaining agreement is set to expire on March 31. The men's agreement expired in December.
