American Airlines & Aer Lingus Launch Partnership

I don't know why it took so long, but American Airlines and Aer Lingus will launch a partnership.

American Airlines and Aer Lingus will begin a codeshare agreement for flights between the United States and Ireland. With this agreement.

American Airlines will place its code on Aer Lingus flights between London Heathrow and Dublin, as well as flights to several other destinations in Europe.
Aer Lingus will place its code on American Airlines flights from Chicago to Albuquerque, Nashville, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, and Tucson.

This is intended to make it easier for passengers to book itineraries with both airlines through the websites of the airlines.

This is the first step in the expansion of the codeshare agreement. Aer Lingus has new flights out of Manchester.

Aer Lingus joined the oneworld joint venture last year, which included American, British Airways, Iberia, and Finnair. The joint venture will allow all airlines to share revenue and coordinate fares, schedules and routes across the Atlantic.

Aer Lingus and American have a partnership.

Is frequent flyer reciprocity possible?

I am confused by Aer Lingus integration into the oneworld joint venture. The whole point of these joint ventures is to create as much metal neutrality as possible, which means giving customers an incentive to also travel on partner airlines.

When an airline is added to an existing joint venture, we usually see perks between airlines. This includes the ability to earn and redeem miles.

The announcement did not include any mention of elite perks or frequent flyer recognition. The press release would usually include that if it were planned down the road. I wouldn't have expected it to take so long to launch a codeshare agreement.

When will we see frequent flyer reciprocity?

The bottom line.

American Airlines and Aer Lingus will codeshare. This means that American and Aer Lingus will both market flights. It was expected since Aer Lingus is in a joint venture.

It is important for some passengers to have frequent flyer perks between the two airlines.
