Ryan Shawcross played in the MLS for Inter Miami after leaving the Potters.

Ryan Shawcross, a former captain ofStoke City, has decided to retire due to a back injury.

Shawcross won one England cap in 2012 after playing for 13 years atStoke and scoring 22 goals.

After leaving the Potteries, he went to Inter Miami in the MLS and then picked up a back injury.

He told the Inter Miami website that despite stepping out of his playing career due to injury, his passion for the game is still intact.

Shawcross is best known for being at the heart of the 10-year stay in the premier league by the Potters, most notably under former manager Tony Pulis.

The captain of the team in the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City was the centre-half.

He was a member of the England squad that lost to Sweden 4-2 in a friendly match in November of 2012.

Shawcross had his contract canceled after the Potters' promotion to the top flight, and then joined Inter Miami where he made 12 appearances.
