Police Fired for Playing “Pokémon Go” Instead of Responding to Robbery

We have all been there, Your mom is yelling at you that dinner is ready, but you are in the middle of a video game, and you just can't step away from it.
Two police officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were in a similar situation in 2017: they were called for backup, but instead of dinner, it was an active robbery.
According to California court filings, the two men were fired from their jobs at the LAPD after they were caught playing "Pokémon Go" on their squad car dashboard camera. The pair didn't respond to requests to respond to a robbery.

The police captain who called in backup in response to a shopping mall robbery was the one who said he didn't want to be his help. He said, "Aw, screw it."

Pokemon police.

The officers drove around for 20 minutes trying to catch Togetic and Snorlax on the mobile augmented reality game.
Mitchell could be heard trying to catch Togetic. This thing is fighting me.

According to the filing, Mitchell told his partner that the guys were going to be so jealous.

They told their sergeant that they were having a conversation and didn't hear the call, and that they didn't respond to the active burglaries.
The sergeant discovered the truth and fired them.
The implications of metaphysics.

The pair was fired from their jobs, and only to have a judge deny their attempt to be reinstated.
The story is silly and troubling, but it also shows how the metaverse is already here. The most successful rendition of a metaverse so far is "Pokémon Go". If these cops are any indication, a wide-scale metaverse like what Mark Zuckerberg is imagining at Facebook might have some potentially dangerous social and civic implications.
