The ups and downs of the Las Vegas Raiders' season is so ridiculous that books should be written about it.

It was a miracle that the Raiders made the playoffs. The future of the quarterback may be tied to those of general manager Mike Mayock and interim coach Rich Bisaccia.

Do you want to relive the highs and lows? Take a deep breath and jump in the water. Here's a look at the Raiders' season in 2021.

The President resigns on July 19th.

The team president and point person in the Raiders move to Las Vegas resigned unexpectedly, just a week before training camp is set to open. "Now that the Allegiant Stadium project is complete, it is time for me to focus on my family and look ahead to new endeavors," Badain said in a statement. Mark Davis, the owner of the Raiders, later said that the organization might have been paying too much in taxes, and that the issues could date back to the team's days in Oakland. The whole episode was strange.

The Raiders and Rams practiced together in a brawl.

The show begins at 1 p.m. with Mike, Lindsey, and Dan. Wednesday.
You can watch the playoff preview on ESPN+.

The second of two joint practices ended with a huge fight at Cal Lutheran, a day after receiver Hunter Renfrow put on a clinic against the Rams. On the second day of the scrimmages, the Raiders lost two players to season-ending injuries in Nicholas Morrow and Richie Incognito. The loss of Morrow and Javin White in the exhibition game would make the Raiders remaking their linebacker corps even more important.

Maxx Crosby acknowledges a stint in rehab.

The third-year defensive end told the website he was in a rehabilitation center for alcoholism after his first season. He is following in the footsteps of a man who has battled addiction and is an inspiration to others.

The Raiders won on Monday Night Football.

It took a last-second, 55-yard field goal by Daniel Carlson to send the game to overtime, and it appeared the Raiders would start the season with a walk-off, 33-yard touchdown pass to receiver Bryan Edwards on the first possession of overtime. The Baltimore Ravens needed a field goal for the win after a replay ruled that Edwards was down at the Ravens' 1.

Carl Nassib, the first openly gay player in the NFL, strip-sacked Lamar Jackson, Raiders quarterback Carr hit wide-open receiver Zay Jones for a touchdown, and Raiders defensive tackle Darius Philon recovered a Lamar Jackson fumbled.

September 14, 2021.

The Raiders lost right guard Denzelle Good for the season with a left knee injury. The team's offensive line underwent a major upgrade.

Las Vegas beats Miami in OT.

The Raiders started the season with three wins in a row for the first time since 2002. After the Raiders had fallen behind 14-7, the tone was set by a tackle for a safety by CornerbackCasey Hayward Jr. It would be the last game Jon Gruden would win as Raiders coach.

There was a strange night in Inglewood.

The site where the late Al Davis was going to build a stadium for the Raiders in 1994 was the site of a strange night in 1995. A lightning storm delayed the start of the game, with a huge crowd waiting to get in. The Raiders had to return to the locker room after the opening kick because they were already on the field. After the Bolts held on for a win, Joey Bosa questioned Carr's manhood, saying the Raiders quarterback gets "shook" when he gets hit.

Alex Leatherwood is moving to the right guard.

The Raiders' first-round pick was moved to the interior to make room for Brandon Parker. The Raiders spin was that they were improving the offensive line, but it was not the biggest story of the week.

The emails of Gruden go public.

The Wall Street Journal published a nearly decade-old email written by Gruden to Bruce Allen, in which he used a racial stereotype to describe DeMaurice Smith. He acknowledged writing the missives but said there was no racial intent meant, that he was a football fan and was frustrated by the labour dispute.

The Oakland Raiders allowed Jon Gruden to coach against the Chicago Bears after they repudiated the tone of the emails. The team was distracted. After the 20-9 loss, a locker room divide seemed obvious, with former Raiders defensive player of the year Khalil Mack throwing up an "O" to the Las Vegas crowd after a sack.

A bigger dump of emails seals his fate.

The Raiders lost to the Bears 20-9 in Jon Gruden's last game as head coach.

Despite the Raiders having lost consecutive games, Jon Gruden was smiling and making jokes at his Monday news conference. The email controversy seemed to be behind him. The New York Times published a story with even more damning emails from the previous decade, when he was working as an analyst. Racist, misogynistic and anti-gay language were used in the missives.

After an emotional meeting with Raiders owner Mark Davis, Jon Gruden resigned. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he said. I never meant to hurt anyone. Rich was named interim coach.

Davis addresses power structure.

According to Davis, Mike Mayock had a decision-making advantage over Jon Gruden. Mayock held it over the other side. "Ask the league about the leak of the Gruden emails," Davis said, frustrated, when asked about the whole situation. They have all the answers.

The Raiders beat the Broncos.

A shocked Raiders team took it out on a division rival, outplaying the Broncos in Denver to the tune of a 34-24 thumping in the head-coaching debut of the 61-year-old Bisaccia, who had never previously been a head coach at any level.

Who are these guys?

The Raiders put together another complete effort, with the offense humming in their 33-22 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, to enter their bye week with a lot of confidence. Carr said something that stuck when he said he hadn't had a chance to process everything. The bye gave Carr enough time to grieve.

Henry Rugg III was involved in a fatal crash.

The Raiders returned from their bye feeling good. The players returned for meetings and physical therapy, and no one tested positive for COVID-19. They were told to be smart when they left for a day off on Monday. After hitting balls at Topgolf and sending video texts to Carr and Renfrow asking for tips on his swing, Henry Rugg III was involved in a fatal car crash.

Tina Tintor and her dog were killed in an automobile accident on November 3, when Henry Rugg III was driving.

His blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit in Nevada and his car was going 156 mph. Tina Tintor and her dog died in the fire after her car burst into flames after she rammed into the back of her vehicle on a residential street. Less than 24 hours after releasing him, the Raiders released Rugg, a 2020 first-round pick who had been coming into his own as a playmaker. Up to 50 years in prison is what he is facing for four felonies.

A listless weekend in New Jersey.

A video of a player flashing guns and issuing death threats as the Raiders' bus was on its way to the team hotel in New Jersey went viral. The Raiders, heavy favorites, fell to the New York Giants 23-16 on Sunday, with Carr getting strip-sacked as an ignominious end. Mayock took the blame for the risky pick of Arnette the year before, when the Raiders cut him. The Raiders had two first-round picks in the 2020 draft. DeSean Jackson is a veteran wide receiver that Las Vegas signed.

The lawsuit was filed against the NFL.

The former Raiders coach's suit alleged that the NFL leaked his private correspondence to the Wall Street Journal and New York Times in order to harm his reputation and force him out of his job. There is no explanation as to why the only emails that were made public out of 650,000 collected in the investigation of the Washington Football Team were those of Raiders coach Jon Gruden.

The Kansas City Chiefs were on national TV.

Las Vegas nearly swept the Chiefs in 2020, beating them in Kansas City and then falling in the final minute at home. This one was not even close, with the Chiefs embarrassing their rivals on Sunday Night Football, as their fans took over Allegiant Stadium and delighted in doing the tomahawk chop.

Giving thanks for the Dallas Cowboys.

Daniel Carlson kicked five game-winning kicks this season, including a 29-yarder over the Cowboys on Thanksgiving that earned him a turkey leg.

Las Vegas erupted in Dallas for a 36-33 overtime win, as reports of the Raiders' demise were greatly exaggerated. The Raiders were helped by Anthony Brown's four pass interference penalties for 91 yards, but Jackson showed he still has speed with a 56-yard catch-and-run touchdown. The Raiders were back, so it seemed, in front of the largest audience for a regular-season football game on TV since 1993.

A dud at home vs. a familiar face.

The Raiders came out flat against the Washington Football Team. If the refs missed a blatant defensive holding/pass interference call late in the game, the Raiders would have been in position for a winning field goal.

December 9: Committing to specialists

The Raiders have always taken care of their specialists, from Ray Guy and Chris Bahr to Jeff Gossett and Jeff Jaeger. The Las Vegas front office and staff are not guaranteed to return in 2022.

Stick a fork in them.

Why the Vikings parted ways with their general manager and head coach.
Next Bears coach's fate is tied to Fields.
At the right time, Bakhtiari's return comes.
Big Ben prolongs his career.
The Bills and Pats enter the playoffs on different paths.

The Raiders have a long way to go if they want to be mentioned in the same breath as the Chiefs. There would be no celebratory bus ride around the stadium this time, with Kansas City beating the Raiders 48-9 and Las Vegas having lost five of six since the bye. The defensive end held a meeting on the logo.

Hurry up and wait.

The reports of the Raiders' demise were greatly exaggerated. The Raiders were about to board their bus when the game was delayed because of Cleveland's outbreak of COVID-19.

Carr led the Raiders on a last-minute drive that set up Carlson for the field goal that gave them the win. Crosby, Cole and Perryman were named to the Pro Bowl.

January 2, Stayin' alive.

After beating the Broncos at home, the Raiders went on the road and beat the Colts on a field goal. It was Las Vegas' record fifth walk-off win of the season, setting up a win and they're-in-the-playoffs game against the Los Angeles Clippers in the finale, which was flexed into prime time. The Raiders had their second winning season in 14 years. Things were moving in a positive direction. Until...

There was another arrest for drunk driving on January 3.

After arriving home from the win at Indianapolis, a few hours later, a rookies was arrested on a drunk driving charge when he was found sleeping in his car in the parking lot of a casino. There is a time and place.

Two months and one day after the wreck, Josh Jacobs was arrested and charged with drunk driving after a single-car wreck near the Las Vegas airport. While the organization takes the arrest seriously, it was a legal matter and he expected him to play against the Chargers. Jim Harbaugh, Todd Bowles, and other names started to come up in the rumor mill as possible head-coaching candidates for the Raiders.

January 9: Playoff-bound.

The Raiders' regular-season finale would be a perfect example of their season -- off to a quick start, go flat, take off again, only to be caught and forced to play overtime after the Chargers scored 15 points in the last 4:28 of regulation. Carlson drilled a 47-yarder with no time left on the clock to win the game.

Play.

The Raiders won the game in overtime when Daniel Carlson hit a 47-yard field goal.

The Raiders had conversations about tying the game at the end, but two Josh Jacobs runs got Las Vegas close enough for Carlson's game winner, which was the Raiders' record sixth walk-off win. Las Vegas is in the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and just the second time since 2002 and will face the Cincinnati Bengals.
