The Los Angeles Rams lost a regular-season finale to the San Francisco 49ers, but coach Sean McVay said the team was surprised by the amount of Niners fans at the stadium.

McVay said Monday that it caught them off guard. It's been this way this year. It's been a great place to live. There was a lot of red yesterday. That was definitely a surprise.

An attendance of 74,447 was announced by the Rams. Most 49ers fans cheered their team on to a victory and a playoff spot.

The Rams blew a 17-point first-half lead and watched as the Niners faithful stayed well after the finish to cheer their team, as McVay admitted in the immediate aftermath of the 27-24 overtime loss.

In the first half, Stafford completed 15 of 16 passes for 153 yards and two touchdown, but in the second half he was only 21 of 32 for 238 yards and three scores.

Stafford had a toe injury and some of the late-game play calling was dictated by it.

McVay said that it wasn't like he was going to leave the game. There are certain scenarios that you might call on that you're not as comfortable with executing at the level that you want.

Stafford's toe will not be an issue moving forward. McVay said that he felt good. He was sore.

Despite suffering a sixth straight loss to the 49ers, the Rams still managed to win their third division title in five seasons by way of the Seattle Seahawks defeating the Arizona Cardinals.

McVay admitted Monday that he was upset after the game, but said he had moved on to appreciate their 12 win season and upcoming game.

I was disappointed yesterday. "That's true," McVay said. I want to spend the energy on the things that are in alignment with what we can control.

The Rams will host the Arizona Cardinals in a wild-card game on Monday Night Football, after splitting the regular-season series.

McVay said going into the playoffs after a loss doesn't mean anything, and that the Rams have the makeup to move forward.

McVay has earned a playoff spot in four of his five seasons as a coach. Winning or losing doesn't have much of a factor on how teams do dependent upon whichever lens you want to look at it through.

The Rams will enter the playoffs with some uncertainty in their secondary after a number of injuries.

Jordan will need season-ending surgery for an ankle injury. McVay said that Nick Scott or Terrell Burgess could fill in at safety, and that the other candidate to continue the duty would be the one who took over as the signal caller.

Taylor Rapp, who picked up his fourth pick up of the season against the 49ers, has entered concussion protocol and his return is uncertain.

McVay said that Williams would undergo further evaluation.
