QB Bryce Young shoulders blame for Alabama Crimson Tide's inability to finish drives in CFP title game loss

Alabama lost to Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship presented by AT&T on Monday night, and quarterback Bryce Young was responsible for much of the blame.

We had a lot of opportunities and moved the ball well. We did some things well. At the end of the day, that's on me, we didn't execute, and that's the reason we lost," said Young, who threw the ball a season-high 57 times and was sacked four times.

Young was not sacked a single time in Alabama's win over Georgia in the SEC championship game. He took as many hits as he has all season. Young lamented that he was unable to make more plays for his teammates. Young carried the Tide for much of the season and won the Heisman in his first season as their starter.

I love my guys. I will always love my guys. Young said he wouldn't trade his guys for anything. I let them down today. I love those guys and they stepped up. Our thing this year has been adversity. I have to do better with it.

Young didn't have his top two receivers. John Metchie tore his knee in the SEC championship and Jameson Williams tore his knee in the second quarter of the game.

Young was unable to take advantage of the Georgia secondary the way he did in the first game against the Dawgs, when he set an SEC championship game record with He ran for a touchdown in that game.

Young said that he didn't feel like the guys around him deserved this. I have to take from that. I'm proud of my guys. I love my guys on both sides of the ball. I wish I could have done better for them.

Alabama moved the ball against Georgia's defense and hit some big plays, but struggled to finish drives. The Tide had first downs inside the Georgia 20-yard line on three different occasions. There were two first-and-goal situations inside the 10.

"Just didn't execute, one reason or another," Young said of the Tide's inability to score a touchdown. I didn't execute and the ball touched my hands. My job is to put the ball in the end zone.

Young had thrown only five picks all season, but he threw two against Georgia, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Kelee Ringo in the game's final minute.

Young said that Georgia's defense gave the Tide different looks.

He said that some looks took him a bit to get down. There's a lot I have to do with that, because the O-line battled and fought all season, and some of that stuff may look like, may look interior, or something, but there's a lot I have to do with that. I think they had different tendencies. I have to make the right play for the team, because I did not tonight.
