Georgia's pick-six seals the school's first national title since 1980.
The College Football Playoff championship game was won by Georgia when Kelee Ringo picked off a pass from Bryce Young. There is a minute
The time is 11:59 PM.
The college football season ended with Georgia beating Alabama, but it's already time to look ahead to the next one.
The Alabama squad will start the year on top, leading three SEC teams in the top four.
This has been a crazy off-season thanks to some industry-shaking coaching moves and an overflowing transfer portal. The rankings will be updated several times during the summer.
1. The Alabama Crimson Tide.
The record was 13-2 (7-1 SEC).
6 offense, 7 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
Key starters expected to leave are OT Evan Neal, receiver Jameson Williams, defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis, safety Jordan Battle, and running back Brian Robinson Jr.
Key additions are CB Eli Ricks, OT Tyler Booker, DE Jeremiah Alexander, and Shazz Preston.
The Tide's struggles on the offensive line and on defense at times this past season made it probably not the strongest team of the Nick Saban era. The Tide will be favored to win it all in 2022, with the return of many of the defense's players. The transfer portal might be used by the Tide to replace Williams and Metchie's production. The Tide's secondary will be shored up by Ricks, an All-American at LSU in 2020.
2. The Ohio State football team.
The record was 11-2 (8-1 Big Ten).
6 offense, 7 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
The key starters are expected to leave.
Key additions are ATH Alex Styles, OLB C.J. Hicks, DE Kenyatta Jackson Jr., OLB Gabriel Powers, and ATH Kaleb Brown.
Ryan Day's team missed out on the College Football Playoff for a third straight year, with a 42-27 loss at Michigan, which knocked them out of contention. The defense is to blame for much of Ohio State's problems in 2021. Jim Knowles, who was hired by Day to remake Oklahoma State's defense the past two seasons, will have his work cut out for him. Even with Wilson and Olave turning pro, the offense should still be very good because of the return of quarterback C.J. Stroud. The receiver corps is in good hands. The home opener against Notre Dame, Big Ten road games against Michigan State and Penn State, and divisional games against Iowa and Wisconsin will be demanding.
It's on ABC.
3. Georgia is home to the Georgia Bulldogs.
The record was 14-1 in the SEC.
9 offense, 5 defense, 1 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: DE Travon Walker, NT Jordan Davis, LB Nakobe Dean, LB Channing Tindall, CB Derion Kendrick, OT Jamaree Salyer, and running back James Cook.
Key additions are S Tykee Smith, LB Jalon Walker, CB Daylen Everette, and QB Gunner Stockton.
The SEC East will be favored to win the conference title in the year 2022, as the team ended a 41-year national championship drought with a win over the Tide. Dan Lanning, Georgia's defensive line coach, is leaving to become Oregon's new coach. Will Muschamp and Glenn Schumann will be the co-coordinators in 2022. Georgia's losses on defense will be extensive, and younger players such as Tramel Walthour, Jalen Carter and Nazir Stackhouse will have big shoes to fill. Bennett is eligible to return for another season, and he will likely battle for the starting job next season. Georgia's offense might have to do more heavy lifting in the future.
4. Texas A&M is a school.
The record was 8-4 in the SEC.
5 offense, 5 defense, 1 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are OT Kenyon Green, DeMarvin Leal, running back Isaiah Spiller, and LBs Leon O' Neal Jr. and Akeem Johnson.
Key additions are QB Max Johnson, QBs Walter Nolen, and Conner Weigman, and players like Gabe Brownlow-Dindy and Evan Stewart.
After losing four starting offensive linemen and quarterback Haynes King in the second game, the Aggies took a step back in 2021. Texas A&M's defense will have to be rebuilt. Jimbo Fisher hired D.J. Durkin to replace Mike Elko, who left to become Duke's new coach. The front four on defense are expected to leave. Hansford will have to be replaced. If King is healthy, he'll battle LSU transfer Max Johnson and incoming freshman, the No. 1 pocket passer in the ESPN 300, for the starting job next season.
5. The Michigan Wolverines.
The record was 12-2 (8-1 Big Ten).
6 offense, 5 defense, 0 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: David Ojabo, Josh Ross, Brad Hawkins, Daxton Hill, Andrew Vastardis, and Christopher Hinton.
Key additions are CB William Johnson, OT Tyler Morris, S Keon Sabb, and WR Darrius Clemons.
It might have taken seven seasons, but Jim Harbaugh finally broke through the ceiling at his alma mater. The season ended with a flop, a 34-11 loss to Georgia in the Capital One Orange Bowl. For the first time in a decade, the Michigan football team defeated Ohio State, won the Big Ten and reached the playoffs. The changes made by Harbaugh after the 2020 season paid off. With Hutchinson and Ojabo turning pro, first-year defensive coach Mike Macdonald might have to do even more next season. The quarterback battle between J.J. McCarthy and Cade McNamara will be a priority this spring.
6. Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The record was 11-2.
7 offense, 7 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: S Kyle Hamilton, running back Kyren Williams, quarterback Jack Coan, defensive end Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, and LB Drew White.
LB Jaylen Sneed, CB Jaden Mickey, DE Tyson Ford, ILB Niuafe Tuihalamaka, OT Aamil Wagner, and S Brandon Joseph have been added.
The start of the Marcus Freeman era didn't go as planned, as Notre Dame blew a 21-point lead in a 37-35 loss to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. It's hard to ignore his desire to upgrade recruiting, even though he will grow into the position. The defense got a boost with the return of junior end Isaiah Foskey and fifth-year seniors Jayson Ademilola and Justin Ademilola. Joseph, an All-American at Northwestern in 2020, has had nine intercepts in the past two seasons. The future plans of center Jarrett Patterson have not been announced. Drew Pyne and Tyler Buchner will compete for the quarterback job in the spring. The offensive line should be better with the emergence of freshmen Joe Alt and Blake Fisher. The Irish will play road games against Ohio State, North Carolina, Syracuse and Southern California.
7. The Utah Utes.
The record was 10-4 in the year 2021.
7 offense, 6 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are LB Devin Lloyd, LB Nephi Sewell, DE Mika Tafua,RB TJ Pledger, C Nick Ford, OT Bamidele Olaseni, and S Vonte Davis.
LB Mohamoud Diabate, QB Nathan Johnson, ATH Justius Lowe, LB Lander Barton, S Elijah Davis, LB Justin Medlock, and receiver Landon Morris are new to the team.
The season ended with a disappointing 48-45 loss to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Kyle Whittingham and his team did an amazing job after the deaths of two players. Even with star players such as Lloyd, Sewell and Covey leaving for the NFL, the Utes should be favored to win the conference. Last week, the Utahs added transfer Diabate, who was the second-leading tackler in Florida last season. The undisputed starter will be Rising. The Utahs will play San Diego State in a non conference game in the year 2022.
The Utes are favored to win the conference.
There are 8. The NC State Wolfpack is a basketball team.
The record was 9-3) in the year 2021.
The starter is expected to return with 8 offense, 10 defense and 1 special teams.
Ikem Ekwonu, Zonovan Knight, Ricky Person Jr., Emeka Emezie, and Daniel Joseph are expected to leave.
Key additions are ATH Michael Allen, OLB Torren Wright, G Jacarrius Peak, QB M.J. Morris, P Shane McDonough, and more.
The Holiday Bowl was canceled because of COVID-19 issues for UCLA and the Wolfpack were disappointed that they didn't have the chance to complete their 10 win season. NC State will be in a good position to win more in the future. The quarterback threw for 3,433 yards with 35 touchdown. The other four starting offensive linemen should return, even though Ekwonu will be difficult to replace. Fourteen of the team's top 15 tacklers could return, with the likes of defensive back Derrek Pitts Jr. and safety Tanner Ingle already declaring their intentions to stay. NC State's non conference schedule in the year of 2022, is manageable.
There are 9. The Oklahoma State Cowboys.
The record was 12-2 in the Big 12.
7 offense, 6 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: Jaylen Warren, LB Malcolm Rodriguez, LB DevinHarper, and S Kolby Harvell-Peel.
Key additions are Talyn Shettron, QB Garrett Rangel, Braylin Presley, OT Tyrone Webber, and LB C.J. Brown.
The Cowboys came within a few inches of winning the Big 12 title and possibly reaching the CFP, but instead settled for a 21-point comeback in their win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, which coach Mike Gundy called the biggest in the program's history. The Pokes should be potent again in 2022, with most of the offense returning. The defense will need a change after leading tacklers Rodriguez andHarper left. Gundy isn't sure if he'll promote from within or hire an outside candidate. Next season, the Pokes will play road games in the Big 12.
10. The Michigan State Spartans.
The record was 11-2 in the Big Ten.
5 offense, 9 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
The key starters are expected to leave.
Key additions include LBs Khris Bogle and Jacoby Windmon, LBs Antonio Gates Jr. and Antonio Brule, and CBs Caleb Coley and Alex VanSumeren.
Mel Tucker took a big step toward credibility in his second season as Michigan State's coach, as he believes he can build a national championship caliber program. The improvement from 2020 is the biggest in school history. The Spartans were ranked third in the initial rankings. Walker was the second-leading running back in the country with 1,636 yards in 12 games. The Spartans might be looking for another running back after adding Berger. The team's second-leading receiver is expected to leave along with three starting offensive linemen. The Spartans need better pass-rushers, which is why they added Brule from Mississippi State and Windmon from UNLV.
11. There is a college sports team called the Clemson Tigers.
The record was 10-3 in the year 2021.
11 offense, 6 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: LB James Skalski, CB Andrew Booth Jr., and CB Nolan Turner.
Key additions are: QB Cade Klubnik, CB Jeadyn Lukus, Antonio Williams, OT, and Adam Randall.
The change is finally coming to the dynasty, and the Tigers are going through a major coaching change, after offensive coordinator Tony Elliott was named Virginia's new coach. Brandon Streeter was promoted to offensive playcaller and Wes Goodwin was promoted to defensive coach. D.J. Uiagalelei was 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 The offensive line needs to play better and the receiver needs to play better. Streeter might want to get running backs Will Shipley and Kobe Pace more involved in the passing game. The defense will get a boost from the return of tackle Bryan Bresee, who missed much of the year with a torn knee.
There are 12. The Oregon Ducks are a team.
The record was 10-4 in the year 2021.
8 offense, 7 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: DE Kayvon Thibodeaux, CB Mykael Wright, CB DJ James, QB Anthony Brown, G George Moore, and S Verone McKinley III.
Key additions include Bo Nix, LB Jalil Tucker, DE Gracen Halton, S Trejon Williams, LB Harrison Taggart, and Christian Gonzalez.
After former coach Mario Cristobal left to return to Miami, the Ducks are gambling on a first-time head coach. Lanning brings back a lot of talent, including LB Noah Sewell, CB Dontae Manning and NT Popo Aumavae, but loses one of the best defenders in the country in OL Tomsius. Lanning is bringing in a former starter to compete for the starting quarterback job, and he expects three of the offense's starters to leave. There's enough for the Ducks to win the Pac-12 North again even with Lanning's inexperience. The first game of the season is against Georgia in Atlanta.
One of Oregon's returning stars is Noah Sewell.
13 The Houston Astros.
The record was 12-2 in the year 2021.
7 offense, 6 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are G Keenan Murphy, C Kody Russey, OT Dennis Bardwell, CB Marcus Jones, DE David Anenih, LB Deontay Anderson, CB Damarion Williams, and receiver Jake Herslow.
Matthew Golden, OL Demetrius Hunter, CB Moses Alexander, DE Nadame Tucker, and Amipeleasi Lange are new to the team.
If not the favorite, the Cougars will be one of the favorites in the AAC in 2022, after winning 12 games for only the third time in school history. There are many pieces coming back on the offense, including quarterback, Nathaniel Dell. Dell needs help on the perimeter and the offensive line needs to play better. The resurgence of Houston's "Third Ward" defense is what has fueled its resurgence under Dana Holgorsen, and the Cougars are fortunate that their offensive line coach is sticking around after drawing interest from a few Power 5 programs. Jones' ability to make big plays on kick returns and in the secondary will be missed.
There are 14. Wake Forest is known for its Demon Deacons.
The record was 11-3 (7-1 ACC).
8 offense, 7 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
The key starters are expected to leave.
Key additions are: Kobie Turner, Jaydn Girard, CB Zamari Stevenson, Eli Hall, and Tommy Bebie.
Dave Clawson has done an amazing job at Wake Forest, leading the Demon Deacons to at least 10 wins for the second time in the 114-year history of the program. Wake Forest played in six consecutive bowl games after winning the Atlantic Division. Sam Hartman is coming back and the Demon Deacons should be in the mix for the title in 2022. Hartman will miss Roberson, who had 71 catches for 1,078 yards with eight touchdown, but A.T. Perry is just as good. The team's leading rusher entered the transfer portal. Wake Forest's offense could be better. Brad Lambert was hired by Clawson to be the new defensive coordinator.
15. The Iowa Hawkeyes.
The record was 10-4 in the Big Ten.
8 offense, 7 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
The key starters are expected to leave.
Key additions are: DE AARON GRAVES, S Xenia Nwankpa, DE Caden Crawford, and Jaziun Patterson.
Kirk Ferentz's football machine keeps chugging along, inch by inch, at a very Iowa-like speed. It's impossible to not think of what the Hawkeyes could have done with a more-than-pedestrian offense. In total offense, Iowa ranked 121st in the country, while in passing and scoring it ranked 99th. Spencer Petras and Alex Padilla combined to complete 45% of their attempts with 12 touchdown and 11 interception. Goodson ran for 1,151 yards and scored six times. The Hawkeyes need more out of their passing game. Iowa's defense will be great in 2022, even with Hankins and VanValkenburg gone. Will its offense be better?
16. The Bears of Baylor.
The record was 12-2 in the Big 12.
3 offense, 4 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: LB Terrel Bernard, LB Tyquan Thornton, LB R.J. Sneed, CB Raleigh Texada, and CB Kalon Barnes.
Key additions are: Armani Winfield, Kaian Roberts-Day, G George Maile, S Devyn Bobby, OLB Jeremy Patton, and Richard Reese.
The Bears went 2-7 in coach Dave Aranda's first season, but have since turned it around. They set a school record with 12 victories and won the Big 12 title. They won a New Year's Day bowl game for the first time in over 50 years, with a 21-7 victory against Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. Aranda and his staff will carry a lot of energy into 2022, with four starting offensive linemen returning. The running game will be hard to replace, and the starting quarterback job will be a battle between Bohanon and Sharpen. Thornton and Sneed will need help on the perimeter. Aranda might use the transfer portal to look for replacements.
17 The Oklahoma Sooners.
The record was 11-2 in the Big 12.
4 offense, 4 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: LB Brian Asamoah, DE Brian Bonitto, LB Perrion Winfrey, S Delarrin Turner-Yell, and S Pat Fields.
Key additions are QB Dillon Gabriel, G McKade Mettauer, Daniel Parker Jr., running backs, LB Kobie McKenzie, and Nicholas Anderson.
The transition from former coach Lincoln Riley to new coachBrent Venables might be easier if quarterback Caleb Williams stays. Williams said returning to OU remains an option, although he has entered the transfer portal. Gabriel, who threw for more than 8,000 yards with 70 touchdown in three seasons at UCF, was grabbed by the Sooners. Freshman receiver Mario Williams might transfer. Venables will have to address heavy losses on the line of scrimmage. Six of the team's best defenders are leaving, along with the leading rusher and three of the top four receivers. The losses in the interior offensive line will be mitigated by the addition of Mettauer.
The defensive coach at the time was Venables.
There is a new item on the market. The Cougars of the Mormon church.
The record was 10-3 in the year 2021.
The starter is expected to return with 8 offense, 11 defense, and 2 special teams.
Key starters expected to leave are Tyler Allgeier, Neil Pau'u, and James Empey.
Key additions are OT Kingsley Suamataia, receiver Cody Hagen, DE Aisea Moa, DE Logan Fano, and running back Christopher Brooks.
The past two seasons, the Cougars went 21-4 and earned coach Kalani Sitake a new contract and hefty raise. The power 5 foes and the Pac-12 foes were all 6-1 against the team. In the Independence Bowl, it was a shortcoming that the defense was not bigger and stronger, which is why it was lost. The good news is that every starter is expected to return to defense in 2022, when injured players such as linebacker Keenan Pili and defensive backs MicahHarper andKeenan Ellis will be available. Replacing Allgeier, who ran for 1,606 yards and had 23 rushing touchdown, will be difficult. Cal's leading scorer in rushing last season, and a transfer from the other side of the country, are two new additions to the team. Jaren Hall and four offensive linemen are returning. Next season's schedule includes home and away games against Arkansas, and road games against Oregon, and a contest against Notre Dame in Las Vegas.
19 The Cincinnati Bearcats are a team.
The record was 13-1 in the year 2021.
7 offense, 2 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: QB Desmond Ridder, CB Ahmad Gardner, CB Coby Bryant, DE Myjai Sanders, and receiver Alec Pierce.
Key additions include DE Mario Eugenio, CB Oliver Bridges, and QB J.Q. Hardaway.
The first team from a Group of 5 conference to reach theCFP will have to reload their roster and replace much of the firepower that got them there. The bad news: Coach Fickell was not with them. The defense is expected to be especially heavy losses, including top tackler Dublanko and top pass-rusherBrooks. Ridder was a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference offensive player of the year and had a 44-6 record as a starter. Evan Prater, who was named Ohio's Mr. Football in 2019, will be the favorite to take over. Cincinnati will still be a contender for an American Athletic Conference title despite taking a step back next season. Next season, the Bearcats play at Arkansas and Indiana.
20. Arkansas Razorbacks.
The record was 9-4 in the SEC.
6 offense, 3 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave: OT Myron Cunningham, receiver Tyson Morris, LB Grant Morgan, LB Hayden Henry, DE Tre Williams, CB Montaric Brown, and S Joe Foucha.
Key additions are: Jadon Haselwood, DE, Andrew Chamblee, S, and E'Marion Harris.
It might have taken decades for Sam Pittman to get a chance to be a head coach, but he's making the most of it now. The Razorbacks went 9-4 in his second season, winning two more games than they had in the previous three years. They beat three ranked opponents. There will be a lot of work to be done on the front seven in the spring. Three starting defensive backs are leaving, including three who unexpectedly entered the transfer portal, but star safety Jalen Catalon will be back from shoulder surgery. The addition of Haselwood will give the passing game a boost. The Razorbacks will play nonconference games against Cincinnati, BYU and Liberty in the years to come.
21. The Kentucky Wildcats.
The record was 10-3 in the SEC.
Key starters are expected to return.
Key starters are expected to leave: OT Darian Kinnard, Cluke Fortner,WR Wan'Dale Robinson, DE Joshua Paschal,NG Marquan McCall, CB Cedric Dort Jr., and FS
Key additions include: OT Kiyaunta Goodwin, LB Keaten Wade, and CB Zahquan Frazier.
The Cats missed out on a New Year's Six bowl game, but they still won 10 games for the second time in 37 years. The first was under Mark Stoops. Chris Rodriguez Jr. could be very good on offense next season. Will Levis, a Penn State transfer, should be even better with a full off season. The offensive tackles might turn pro. There are a lot of questions about who is going to be on the defensive side of the ball. If a few decide to return, the Cats could push for 10 victories again.
There is a new date for this. The USC Trojans.
The record was 4-7 in the Pac-12).
6 offense, 6 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
CB Chris Steele, LB Drake Jackson, and receiver Drake London are expected to leave the team.
Key additions are: CB Domani Jackson, S Zion Branch, CB Fabian Ross, OT Bobby Haskins.
Lincoln Riley took over a top-five program from Bob Stoops at Oklahoma, but he's taking on a mess at USC. The last time the USC won more than eight games was in 2017: they finished with their worst season in 30 years. On Monday, QB Jaxson Dart entered the transfer portal, potentially opening the door for former Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams to rejoin Riley at USC. London caught 88 passes in eight games. The right side of the offensive line will have to be replaced because of the departure of Haskins. Alex Grinch will have to rebuild the defense. Riley won't work miracles in his first season, but there's enough talent to make noise in the mediocre Pac-12.
There is a new date for this. The Ole Miss Rebels.
The record was 10-3 (6-2 SEC).
The starter are expected to return with 4 offense, 6 defense, and 1 special teams.
Key players expected to leave are QB Matt Corral,RB Jerrion Ealy,WR Braylon Sanders, C Orlando Umana, DE Sam Williams, LB Mark Robinson, and LB Jake Springer.
Key additions include: Jordan Watkins, S Ladarius Tennison, LB Jaron Willis, Zxavian Harris, CB Nick Cull, and LB Reginald Hughes.
The Rebels took a gamble on Lane Kiffin, but it paid off when he guided them to their first 10-win regular season in school history. The season ended with a bang, after they lost to the Bears in the Sugar Bowl. Kiffin will have to replace many of the difference-makers on the offense, including Corral, Ealy, and the top receivers. In the Sugar Bowl, the backup quarterback was shaky, but it was his first extensive action in his career. If Kiffin adds a more experienced passer through the transfer portal, it wouldn't be a surprise. Robinson and Williams are big losses on the defense, but as many as six other players might return on that side of the ball.
Ole Miss had its first 10-win regular season in school history.
24. The Wisconsin Badgers.
The record was 9-4 (6-4 Big Ten).
6 offense, 4 defense, 2 special teams are expected to return.
Key players expected to leave are: Kendric Pryor, Danny Davis III, Jake Ferguson, Josh Seltzner, and LB Jack Sanborn.
The Badgers won nine games and defeated Arizona State 20-13 in the Las Vegas Bowl. They're going to have to rebuild their defense to compete in the Big Ten West. Leading tacklers Chenal and Sanborn are moving on. Graham Mertz needs to play better, and he'll have to do without his three top pass-catchings from 2021. Two starters will have to be replaced up front, along with offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, who left for Virginia Tech. The Badgers will play five teams on the road.
25. South Carolina football team.
The record was 6-7 in the SEC.
8 offense, 6 defense, and 1 special teams are expected to return.
The key starters are expected to leave.
Key additions include QB Spencer Rattler, QB Austin Stogner, QB Tanner Bailey, CB Keenan Nelson Jr., QB Braden Davis, LB Stone Blanton, and S Kajuan Banks.
The first season as a head coach for Beamer was a success, given the lack of depth and problems at quarterback. They won over Florida, Auburn and North Carolina in the Duke's Mayo Bowl. Rattler, a former Oklahoma starter, was brought in by Beamer to address his quarterback issues. Bailey and Davis were the top pocket passers and dual-threat quarterbacks. Some players will have to be replaced on defense, but Brad Johnson and R.J. Roderick will return for another season.
